Contribute a Devotion!

Advent is the season of preparation for the coming of Christ at Christmas.  This should be a time for families to come together in prayer and devotion.
St. John's would like to encourage this devotional time by preparing an Advent Devotional containing a reading for each day in Advent that has been written by members of our congregation.
If you are interested in contributing a devotion, please contact Ruth Portzline.

PASTOR'S REFLECTION
We are all saddened and appalled at the tragedy that occurred in Las Vegas this week. I want to share some words of wisdom from our bishop, Peggy Johnson. And I hope we will all continue to pray and to hope. I also pray that this tragedy will be the impetus for us, as a nation, to work relentlessly toward finding effective ways to help prevent these kinds of tragedies in the future.

R.I.S.E. SUNDAY

R.I.S.E. SUNDAY
What a fantastic day of worship and service we had! Over 180 children, youth and adults participated in our 5 mission projects. We pac kaged 13,824 meals through Rise Against Hunger raising over $4000 to purchase all the materials we needed to complete this project.
We assembled 92 Necessities Kits for homeless youth that will be given out by the Synergy Project. The congregation provided all the materials needed for these kits.
We made 6 sleeping bags that will be given to local homeless persons. The congregation provided materials needed to make these bags.
We made at least 40 pillow case dresses that will be sent to girls in Africa. The congregation donated all the materials needed for this project.
Thank you to all those that made this memorable day possible!

Two thousand years ago, Jesus told a simple story about a father and his two sons.  This tale stands out because it is a story about each of us and our struggle with sin.  Whether we identify with the rebellion of the younger son or the self-righteousness of the older brother, we all are in need of our Father's grace, mercy, and forgiveness.

Cost of participant guide is $9.00

Grace Cafe.

Daring faith requires taking risk. It requires the courage to step up and face the giants . . . and to face the unknown. It might be easier to stay in your comfort zone, but when you bravely step out to where God has called you, history is made and lives are changed forever. You must be bold and daring to live an extraordinary life of faith.

Learn what it means to have a bold, unshakable faith that gives you the courage to impact the world around you.

Cost of participants guide is $10.00

WARRIOR COFFEE

"FIGHTING FOR WHAT'S RIGHT A CUP AT A TIME"

Over a century after our ancestral grandparents and great grandparents experienced the privilege of having their homes electrified, the villagers in El Naranjito still lived from sunset to sunrise in darkness.  What light they had after dusk came from cooking fires and candles; otherwise their lives were limited by the cycles of daylight. However, all that changed in May 2017, when Lycoming College purchased and installed 14 portable solar generators in the village. The joy on the faces of the village inhabitants was almost indescribable.
These solar generators, like the other improvements we have made to the village have all been paid for by your purchase of Warrior Brand Coffee and your willingness to "Fight for What's Right One Cup at a Time".

If you ordered Warrior Coffee it will be available for you to pick it up at church next Sunday, October 15th after any of the worship services.
If you did not get the opportunity to purchase Warrior Coffee, we will be taking orders again in late November. Please watch the church bulletin and newsletter for details.
