THANK YOU
Dear Members of SPRC and Church Members,

I can't begin to thank you so much for my "Celebration Sunday". It was a very emotional day and week for me working at the church for 36 years. I will treasure the St. John's UMC throw blanket, which is beautiful! The very generous gift card from Gaspers will definitely will be very useful.

I also want to thank the church members for the many, many cards, notes and gifts I received. Your thoughtfulness is very much appreciated. The three cakes after each service were very much appreciated by all.

Thank you again for making my 36 years at   St. John's very enjoyable. I have made so many friends and I will cherish your friendships. I am not leaving St. John's -     I will see you every Sunday at church!

Thanks again for everything!

Love, Carole

PASTOR'S REFLECTION

I can't begin to tell you when the last time was that I went bowling. It's been years. But Saturday afternoon, my grandson, Jalen, and I were trying to figure out something fun to do on a rainy afternoon, and he suddenly said, "Bowling! Let's go bowling!"
"When was the last time you went bowling?" I asked. "Oh ... maybe 3 or 4 years ago. But I really want to go bowling!"
With a little bit of a grimace on my face, and after trying to make a plea for the movie theater, I finally caved. "Okay ... let's go bowling."
Well, I was actually pretty surprised to find out that I had no idea whatsoever where there was a local bowling alley. Thanks to Google, I found out there was one in Warminster, right there on Street Road. I must have passed it by a thousand times, but never noticed it was there.
I'm almost embarrassed to tell you that I used to bowl in a women's league - many moons ago. And I wasn't half bad. However, on Saturday afternoon, I bowled two games - a whopping 77 & then a 92. Don't laugh!
But we had fun. We even had fun running through the pouring rain to get to the entrance. And then we had fun on the second part of the outing. Dinner. "Where do you want to go to eat?" I asked him. Well, I should have known. "I have a taste for the Chick-fil-a," he replied. Of course. So we went to the Chick-fil-a, ran through the rain again, and ate chicken sandwiches, waffle fries & lemonade together.
So it was a good day, a VERY good day. Sometimes rainy days are like that. I think God sends them to us every now and then just so we slow down and find a fun rainy-day activity we can do with someone else. God loves it when we simply enjoy one another's company.
And God ALSO loves it when we slow down enough to simply enjoy HIS company.

NEW BIBLE STUDY OPPORTUNITY:
THE GOSPEL OF LUKE
Please join us on Wednesday evenings starting September 19 at 7pm in the Grace Cafe for the study of the Gospel of Luke. We'll be using the New Daily Study Bible by William Barclay, The Gospel of Luke, for our study book. Our goals for the study are to deepen our understanding of the Word of God and Who Jesus is as revealed to us by the Scriptures of Jesus's life, ministry, death and resurrection. William Barclay is a world-renowned Biblical scholar whose commentary on these Scriptures will help reveal to us the understanding we seek and bring us closer to the God we love and serve. Please feel free to invite others and hope to see you for our study in His Name.

This study is led by Ken Lee and the cost of the book is $15.

Financial support for Rise Against Hunger and other R.I.S.E. Use the pink envelopes in the pew racks and designate "R.I.S.E." on the envelope. We will also be doing a communion offering in September.
