Fr. Joe

Dear St. John's Family,
At June's Vestry meeting, Ruth Adams shared how we need ushers for the 10am service. In fact, 3 couples are serving twice just to cover the needed July Sundays. I'm so grateful for their sacrifice on our behalf, but realize we only need 3 more pairs of people to lighten the load.
When I attend a church for the first time, I always remember the ushers because I meet them first. I appreciate a nice welcome, smile and receiving the bulletin from them. Overall, I've had a positive experience with ushers because they performed their ministry so well.
Please consider becoming a St. John's usher. You'll be mentored by a team of trained ushers for 2 weeks or more as you learn the basics. It's a great ministry that honors our Lord, welcoming people into His sanctuary of worship and concluded with a sense of satisfaction.
Pray with me for 3 more pairs of people to join (couples or singles) so ushers only need to serve once every 4-6 weeks and the St. John's Usher ministry be strengthened afresh!
God Bless You!
Fr. Joe

Summer fun - All you have to do is get involved!! Nothing says summer like Summer Camp
and service! Last month the youth of St John's had a good time serving at one of St John's favorite places, at St Matthew's house. The next time the youth group serves is July 27, let Fr. Christian know if you are available to serve.
In mid-June I was able- and blessed- to attend a mini-summer camp at our Episcopal Diocesan Summer Camp held at Dayspring Camp and Conference Center in Parrish, FL, where I served as the Spiritual Director. Our participants were few in number but what we lacked in quantity, we made up for in quality. Among the fun camp activities were canoeing, waterslide, field games, and arts and crafts; we also began the day with morning prayer and worship, had teachings from the chaplain in the chapel mid-day and ended the day with a lovely campfire, s'mores and compline. We here in the diocese of Southwestern Florida have a great summer camp program and my hope is still to get a few of our youth there this summer, and even more next summer!! There is nothing like going to church camp in the summer, but don't just take my word for it!

This summer I have also been recruited to serve as the summer camp chaplain at the Greater
Naples YMCA. St John's has had a wonderful and growing relationship with the Naples YMCA and it is my privilege to spend a few hours twice a week ministering to, listening to, and encouraging the kids and counselors at Camp WYHOWAY. This week's theme was "Y's got Talent", and after talking to the whole company of camp kids in the large group (about 320 students), I went with the 8 year olds to their first activity, where I was able to demonstrate some uncanny mouth-eye coordination by catching not one but two marshmallows in my mouth via camp-made marshmallow catapults!
Now you might be saying, I wish some kids I know could have taken part in these great activities; and I would say, "Yes they were great, and we have more great opportunities with fun gatherings coming soon!"
Kids grades K -6th are invited to join in for lots of fun at the "5 Day Club", July 11-15 from
9-10AM at Fleischman Park. Come and join in the fun- singing songs, learning from God's Word, playing games and more! And it's free - all you have to do is show up and enjoy!!
Don't miss our annual Vacation Bible Saturday, July 30th, from 9AM-2PM. Our theme this year is Jonah and the BIG Fish. Join us for songs, games, crafts and learning lessons about trusting God in all circumstances, even when swallowed by a huge whale! Call the church office to register for this exciting day of fun and fellowship.
