The St. John’s Local Immigration Partnership is a broad-based partnership designed to support the well-being and participation of newcomers in all aspects of life in the city, as well as to strengthen the city’s ability to integrate newcomer needs into municipal planning processes. The St. John’s LIP is co-led by the City of St. John’s and the Association for New Canadians and is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

In this Newsletter:
We've heard from our Partnership Council and others that there is a need for more tools for connecting individuals interested in immigration issues in the city. To help meet that need, and to encourage collaboration and information sharing, we send out a newsletter 6 times a year that includes the following information:

What's new at the St. John's LIP

French version of "My New St. John's" Service Map
|
|
The St. John's Local Immigration Partnership has launched the French version of our mobile-friendly services map website. It will help French speaking newcomers and immigrants easily find and access existing programs and services. The site
MonNouveauStJean.ca
will help newcomers fully engage in all aspects of economic, social, and cultural life in the City and facilitate successful integration by making it easier for them to navigate the range of programs and services available.
Features include a robust search function for programs and services by field in alignment with the priority areas of the LIP and its four Working Groups: Education and Training, Health and Basic Needs, Employment and Labour Needs, and Welcoming Communities and Social Connections. Location maps, directions and transportation options are also provided.

Winter Activity Centre
Winter equipment rental shops are now located in both Bowring Park and Pippy Park.
Snowshoes for all ages are available for rent at Bowring Park, while at Pippy Park snowshoes and classic cross country skis are available for rent. Equipment rental passes are also available for purchase at H.G.R. Mews Community Cenre and Paul Reynolds Community Centre. A cross-country ski sledge or snow coach are available upon request by emailing
[email protected]
.
Days of operation are weather dependent and based on snow cover. Call the Info Line at 737-3651 to check updated facility operations.
Equipment rental costs:
- Individual, $5
- Family of three, $10
- Family of four or more, $15

St. John’s Celebrates…..CHILLFEST
The City of St. John's has planned four days of action-packed FREE winter events for a variety of ages and interests from from February 15 to 18. Come on out and join in the fun!
ChillFest 2019 will include the annual Kitchen Party, MegaPlay, outdoor skating parties at The Loop and much more. Events will be posted on the City of St. John’s

YWCA Mentorship Program Helping Newcomer Women Join the Workforce
YWCA St. John's has received funding from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to deliver a Newcomer Women’s Leadership and Employment Mentorship Project. The project will help improve confidence and leadership skills, making it easier for newcomer women to join the workforce.
The project was developed in consultation with the Women’s Policy Office and supports the YWCA’s ongoing efforts to create opportunities for girls and women to learn, achieve and participate.
Executive Director of YWCA St. John’s, Wendolyn Schlamp says through this new project, they will work with community partners to coordinate a Multicultural Women in Leadership Symposium, and more in terms of research to find the challenges and solutions to full participation in the labour market.

City of St. John’s engagement sessions on the Bike Master Plan and Transit Review
Two important strategies have been in development since last fall and are now ready for your feedback; the Bike St. John’s Draft Master Plan and the Public Transit Operational Review.
The City is hosting four drop-in engagement sessions on the Bike Master Plan; two of the sessions will include opportunities for feedback on both projects.
The Bike Plan sessions will focus on the draft cycling plan including bike route options, different types of bike routes, surface materials, etc.
The Public Transit sessions will focus on the recommendations for service changes developed in response to the input received through first round of public engagement.

The Community Healthy Living Fund (CHLF) is a program that supports "
The Way Forward: A Vision for Sustainability and Growth in Newfoundland and Labrador"
and provides a funding opportunity to communities and organization's for projects, programs and initiatives that demonstrate direct measurable results towards the targets outlined in "The Way Forward", specifically:
- to increase physical activity and
- increase the rate of vegetable and fruit consumption.
