Weekly Parish Message
From David Bennett, Sr. Warden

Spring has arrived, with all of its promise of hope, renewal and rebirth!

If you haven’t been to St. John’s recently, you may not be aware of the buzz of activity taking place. It’s subtle, it’s still growing, but it’s palpable.  And it’s a sure sign that St. John’s is emerging from a long winter slumber.

As we’ve gradually been able to increase the number of people in the sanctuary, we now have a growing team of participants who are at St. John’s each week to present and enrich our online worship service. Our tech volunteers, led by the tireless Al Sauer, have learned how to monitor our new A/V system, streaming our services via YouTube and Zoom.

Update & Survey on In-Person Worship Options
St. John's ad-hoc "Re-Gathering Team" led by Lois Sauer has been hard at work reviewing evolving diocesan mandates regarding in-person worship, and helping our Rector and Vestry consider options for returning to in-person worship in the coming weeks.

Please click the link below for a full update and respond to survey of parishioner interests and concerns regarding in-person worship. Read More

Eastertide Formation, Outreach and Fellowship Offerings

Starting on April 14th, our Adult Education Ministry will start a new series, "The Way of Love - Living our Baptismal Promises." This first class in the series will be led by Joy Shillingsburg, Dir. of Youth and Outreach on Environmental Justice (and its intersection with race and climate issues) as part of how we live out our baptismal promise to strive for justice. The following classes from April 21-May 12 will be led by The Rev. Dr. Lorraine Ljunggren and will explore our baptismal promises in relation to how we live as individuals and as a community.

Keep checking your weekly eNews and our News section on St. John's website for details and updates on what's coming up each week.
Starting Apr 6 and Apr 8 at 9:30 am in the Parish Hall, Suzi Hetzel, an artist and parishioner, will be resuming in-person watercolor classes held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. No previous experience required. If you are new to watercolor, materials will be provided the first week for you.

COVID guidelines will be followed, which includes wearing a mask while on church grounds.

If interested, email Suzi Hetzel or Barb Kwiatek in the church office.
Enrollment is limited due to COVID, so registration is required to hold your spot. The cost per class is $15, $10 will be donated to the church.

Ukrainian Easter Eggs
The Season of Easter stretches from Easter Day to Pentecost. To continue our Easter celebrations, The Rev. Dr. Jim Melnyk will offer a Zoom class on how to make Pysanky on Saturday, April 10 from 9:30 am-12:00 pm. Jim will teach some of the basic techniques in egg decorating and share some of the ancient legends surrounding the art. Those who wish to attend and learn this sacred art form must purchase the necessary materials ahead of time and have them ready by class time on April 10.

Please email Jim at jsmelnyknyy28@gmail.com if you would like to sign up (or have questions). A Zoom link will be provided closer to the class date.

St. John’s is literally walking - and hiking! - in love!
Thanks to the great response to our Social Activity Survey, we have now set up four options for walking or hiking with fellow parishioners. You have options for place, date, time, and pace of walk, so take your pick and join your fellow members as we WALK IN LOVE.

Doing Good...Feels Good!

Many of you know Kosha Dorsey who (before the pandemic) helped in the kitchen during our Wednesday evening Sojourners Adult Formation Programs. Her old car was beyond repair, so members of St. John's demonstrated again the fullness and love of the Christ Spirit by donating funds. In cooperation with the Wake Forest Christian Church, we were able to purchase her a wonderful replacement! She was a happy lady when she first sat in her "new" car. Thanks to all who contributed.
