Weekly Parish Message
From Mo. Sarah Phelps, Rector

While we welcome pledges of time, talent, or treasure any time of year, we've set a "soft deadline" of Nov 20 for 2021 pledge returns so the Vestry may begin to build a responsible budget for 2021 before the end of 2020.

We are very aware that amidst a global pandemic, it may be hard to make a financial commitment beyond your nuclear family. Some will not be able. Others may be able to give more.

If you plan to pledge financially, at this point the easiest way is to click the button to the left. Please prayerfully consider and talk it over with others in your household. Then, please, make your pledge today!

Our collective generosity and the power of the Holy Spirit are what power our Walk in Love. Thank you for giving your best!

This comes with Love,
Mo. Sarah+

Reimagining Curacies: Checking in with Our Curates

In a conversation hosted by the Rev. Nathan Kirkpatrick, coordinator of the Reimagining Curacies Program for the diocese, Amanda Bourne, Mawethu Ncaca and Philip Zoutendam share thoughts on what they've learned in their first positions thus far, what has surprised them, what they have discovered about themselves, and the challenges of ministry in the time of COVID-19.

Update on Weekday
Outdoor Worship

Given rapidly rising Covid-19 infection rates, our bishops have suspended all indoor worship services at this time. However, we can still have outdoor worship, weather permitting. Due to daily changes with the weather and Covid-19 restrictions, we have decided to determine our ability to have outdoor worship on a week by week basis. We will be using WRAL's weather report...If the temperature is 50 degrees or higher at 11 AM and it's clear and not too windy, we will have outdoor worship. We encourage you to continue to watch for emails and your Weekly News to see what we will be doing and links to sign up.

Advent Candle Donation
(in place of poinsettia donations)

We are working to create an outdoor space for reflection and prayer during the four weeks of Advent that will be filled with light!

If you would like to dedicate a candle for use in this space, in memory or honor of a loved one, please click the button below and complete one form per dedication. Or, you may simply email Barbara in the church office barbara@stjohnswf.com with the name(s) of your loved ones. All names will be included in our Fourth Sunday of Advent and Christmas Eve liturgies. All proceeds will go to our Worship Ministries. The deadline to submit names is Dec 13th.
Let's Fill the Church!
...with warm winter coats for those who need them! Please join our community partners for a winter coat giveaway at Olive Branch Baptist Church on December 5.

Til Nov 30 you are encouraged to bring a new winter jacket (any size from infant to adult) and place it in the large bin outside by Mother Sarah's office.
If you purchase a blanket, consider purchasing a blanket made of natural fibers (cotton/bamboo) so that you can both bless the blanket recipient and care for our Mother Earth!
Joy of Christmas
We plan to create 30-40 winter themed boxes to give to the families we've met at Summer Nutrition and Community Meals, and senior citizens that we have served for many years. These festive boxes will contain a warm winter blanket, a box of hot cocoa, a winter themed book and a gift card so that the family can purchase whatever they need to make it a wonderful holiday season.

Between 12/1-12/20, you may contribute by purchasing an item listed above or click the button below to give a monetary donation. You can leave your non-monetary donations in the box outside the building by Mo. Sarah's office doors. Thank You!
