New Residential Curbside Collection Provider Starting Aug. 1, 2024

Beginning Thursday, Aug. 1, St. Johns County’s new residential curbside collection provider, FCC Environmental Services Florida, LLC, will begin servicing the County. All current service levels will remain in place, which includes weekly curbside collection of household garbage, yard waste, recycling, and bulk waste as well as scheduled services like appliance pick up requested by customers.

County Ramps Up Preparedness Efforts Ahead of Peak Hurricane Season

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 to Nov. 30) is underway, and St. Johns County Emergency Management (SJCEM) is encouraging the public to be proactive in preparing for potential storms. The St. Johns County Office of Public Affairs produced a 2024 Hurricane Preparedness video in coordination with SJCEM to aid the public. The 2024 Hurricane Preparedness Guide and other preparedness materials are available to the public at www.sjcemergencymanagement.com. Additionally, the Office of Public Affairs produced a video to highlight the 12,000 sandbags given away to the community on July 31 to help prepare the community ahead of peak hurricane season.

County Makes Progress on Transportation Improvements

The St. Johns County Public Works Department updated the community on the progress it is making on more than 10 miles of road construction projects and other transportation improvements at the June 18, 2024, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting. County Provides State of the Beaches Update

St. Johns County Coastal Management recently shared how it manages more than 32 miles of eroded shoreline. Seven projects kicked off in 2023, and four launched in 2024. The County’s Office of Public Affairs produced a video to highlight the presentation.

Vilano Beach Oceanfront Park Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

On July 17, St. Johns County joined the St. Johns Cultural Council and Vilano Beach Main Street for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the reopening of Vilano Beach Oceanfront Park (2752 Anahma Drive, St. Augustine) following its $1.8 million renovation.

Hastings Branch Library to Temporarily Close for Relocation

The Hastings Branch Library, currently located at 6195 S. Main St., Hastings, will close at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, for approximately one month to relocate to a temporary location. The library will reopen at the W.E. Harris Community Center, located at 400 E. Harris St., Hastings, on Tuesday, Sept. 3. This move is a necessary step in the planned construction of a new community center and library, which St. Johns County anticipates opening in Fall 2025.

Parks and Recreation Launches New App

St. Johns County Parks and Recreation recently launched a brand-new app, giving residents an intuitive platform for community engagement, education, and exploration. The SJC Parks and Rec app allows users to find parks and beaches (and even individual amenities like skate parks, dog parks, boat ramps, etc.) using intuitive interactive maps, register quickly and easily for programs and events, and listen to region-specific audio tours about County history. The SJC Parks and Rec app is available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
