| | Ride Along with Turtle Patrol: Protecting Sea Turtles in St. Johns County | |
Every nesting season, dedicated Turtle Patrol volunteers work alongside the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to help protect sea turtles along St. Johns County's beaches. These teams monitor the shoreline, document nesting activity, mark sea turtle nests, and help safeguard them throughout the season. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video showcasing these conservation efforts.
In this video, join Ashley Raybould, St. Johns County Environmental Supervisor, for a ride along with the Turtle Patrol on Crescent Beach. Learn about the important conservation efforts that help protect the five species of federally threatened or endangered sea turtles that nest on our local beaches and discover how these volunteers play a vital role in ensuring a successful nesting season.
Sea turtle nesting season runs from May 1 through October 31.
| | Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library Welcomes Youngest Patrons to Renovated Children’s Cove | |
Families, supporters, and community members celebrated the grand opening of the Children’s Cove at Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library on Saturday, July 11. Over 200 people came out to explore the transformed children’s space after a three-month closure for the library’s first major renovation in three decades. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video highlighting the project.
The renovation transformed a beloved space that served generations since the branch opened in 1993. Formerly known as the Children’s Area, the Children’s Cove integrates the area’s coastal elements in its new theme voted on by patrons. The refresh’s features include improved visibility and safety, flexible seating and gathering spaces, durable new furnishings and flooring, expanded shelving, and interactive learning areas designed to encourage imagination and exploration.
| | Best Foot Forward Pedestrian Safety Campaign Expands to St. Johns County | The Best Foot Forward pedestrian safety program is officially expanding into St. Johns County, bringing its nationally recognized, data-driven approach to get more drivers to stop for people in marked crosswalks, making everyday walking safer throughout Northeast Florida. St. Johns County is the first in Northeast Florida to adopt the program. The program’s expansion into Northeast Florida is supported by the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization and the Florida Department of Transportation. | | |
