St. Johns County Farming Family Featured in Super Bowl Commercial

St. Johns County potato farmer DeLee Parker, age 5, and her family were featured in a Super Bowl commercial on Sunday, Feb. 9. The commercial titled The Little Farmer was produced by Frito-Lay for its Lay’s Potato Chips brand with the tagline “Lay’s are made from real potatoes, and our potatoes come from real farmers.”

St. Johns County Officials Advocate for Key Requests at Annual State Legislative Delegation Meeting

On Jan. 10, the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners welcomed members of the State Legislative Delegation for its annual public hearing, an important forum for local agencies and citizens to provide input on legislative priorities for the 2025 session. The St. Johns County Office of Public Affairs produced a video recapping the meeting.

St. Johns County Board Approves Several Key Community Enhancement Projects

At its Feb. 4 regular meeting, the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners unanimously authorized the award of the construction contract for the Flagler Estates Fire Station 21 and Sheriff’s Office. The 6,036-square-foot joint facility for St. Johns County Fire Rescue and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office will be located in the Flagler Estates community with easy access to the surrounding Hastings area.


Additionally, Solomon Calhoun Community Center (1300 Duval St., St. Augustine) will see two phases of renovations made to its existing facilities. The project’s construction contract was approved by the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners.


The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners also unanimously authorized the award of the construction contract for intersection improvements at State Road 207 and Brinkhoff Road. The improvements will include a new signal-controlled intersection with an ADA-accessible crosswalk.


Finally, a new ADA-accessible beach ramp and additional parking will be constructed at Crescent Beachfront Park (6930 A1A South, St. Augustine). The project’s construction contract was approved by the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners.

Florida Senator Tom Leek Files Bill to Support St. Johns County’s Proposed Florida Black History Museum

On Feb. 3, Florida Senator Tom Leek filed legislation creating a governance framework for the Florida Museum of Black History.


St. Johns County announced in June 2024 that it will be the location of the Florida Museum of Black History, as recommended by the Florida Museum of Black History Task Force after its meeting on June 28, 2024, where the Task Force voted 6-1 to formally transmit this recommendation to the Governor and the Legislature.

St. Johns County received the Northeast Florida Regional Council’s Resiliency Award for the completion of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Alpine Shores Grove Park Shoreline Restoration Project. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video to celebrate the project’s completion.

St. Johns County Celebrates Castillo de San Marcos as a Certified Autism Center™ Designation

On Jan. 15, County Commissioners Ann Taylor, District 5, and Clay Murphy, District 3, Vice Chair, participated in a press conference hosted by the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce to announce that the Castillo de San Marcos had received a Certified Autism Center™ designation, making it the first National Park Service area in the nation to achieve this status. The County’s Office of Public Affairs produced a video recap of the ceremony.

Food for Fines Program Collects More Than 2,500 Items for Families in Need

St. Johns County Public Library System patrons were exceptionally generous over the holiday season, donating more than 2,500 nonperishable food items for St. Johns County’s Health and Human Services Food Pantry through Food for Fines. Over 1,000 Pounds of Trash Removed in New Year’s Beach Cleanup

On Jan. 24, St. Johns County successfully hosted a county-wide beach cleanup event. The second annual New Year’s Trash Bash was organized under the umbrella of St. Johns County’s Award-Winning Get Hooked Anti-Litter Initiative and in partnership with St. Johns River State College for their Vikings Day of Service. The St. Johns County Office of Public Affairs produced a video recapping the collaborative cleanup efforts.
