Sara Maxfield Named Economic Development Director

Sara Maxfield, CEcD, EDFP, was confirmed as the new Economic Development Director at the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting on Sept. 17. Maxfield has 15 years of economic and business development experience, including serving as the Manager of Economic & Business Development for Riviera Beach, Fla.; Director of Economic Development for the City of Delray Beach, Fla.; and Executive Director for the Athens County Economic Development Council and the Athens County Port Authority in Ohio. Maxfield sat down for an interview with the Office of Public Affairs to share her experiences and expertise with the community.

St. Johns County Honors Veterans Day

St. Johns County deeply values and appreciates the service and sacrifices of our veterans. The County offers a wide range of programs and resources to support them. To learn more about the various resources and programs available to veterans, check out this video produced by the Office of Public Affairs.


All departments of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, administrative offices, libraries and bookmobile, the Supervisor of Elections Office, the Property Appraiser’s Office, the Tax Collector’s Office, and the Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller’s Office will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. All offices will resume standard business hours on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Public Library System's Food for Fines Program Returns

The St. Johns County Public Library System is pleased to announce that the popular Food for Fines program has returned to libraries and the bookmobile this year. An opportunity to eliminate most library fines, Food for Fines will run from Sunday, Nov. 10, through Saturday, Dec. 21. The food items collected will be used to stock the St. Johns County Health and Human Services Food Pantry, which provides food for St. Johns County families in need.

Parks and Recreation Hosting Inaugural Family Color Run 5K

On Saturday, Nov. 16, the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its first Family Color Run 5K at the St Johns County Fairgrounds (5840 SR 207 E., Elkton). Registration via the Florida Race Day website costs $40 per runner. Participation gets you an official event t-shirt, a commemorative medal, professional timing services, and the color stations along the route.
