County Wins Federal Ruling on Grand Oaks Developer Dispute

St. Johns County announced that it secured a favorable ruling from the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida in a legal dispute with Southeast Development Partners LLC and Southeast Land Ventures LLC over the Grand Oaks development. The ruling, issued on Sept. 13, 2024, supports the County’s position and reinforces its commitment to upholding development agreements and protecting community interests by holding the developer accountable.

The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is investing $2 million in its Land Acquisition Management Program (LAMP). The BOCC approved the Fiscal Year 2025 budget during a public hearing held on Sept. 17. More than 30% of St. Johns County is currently protected from development through various conservation efforts and partnerships at local, state, and federal levels.

County and West Augustine Celebrate Health and Wellness Center Groundbreaking

On Sept. 13, St. Johns County joined the West Augustine Historical Community Development Corporation, the West Augustine Community Redevelopment Agency, the Central Florida Community Development Corporation, and other partners for a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the start of construction on the $8 million West Augustine Health and Wellness Center. The Office of Public Affairs made a video documenting the event.

County Celebrates Grand Opening of Fire Station 11 and Sheriff's Office Operations Center

On Sept. 7, St. Johns County welcomed the public to a grand opening ceremony and open house to celebrate the opening of the $10.5 million Fire Station 11 and Sheriff’s Office Operations Center, located at 4435 Cypress Links Boulevard, Elkton. The event included station tours, a firetruck push-in ceremony, and a flag dedication. The County’s Office of Public Affairs produced a video to recap the momentous occasion.

County Honors 101-Year-Old World War II Veteran Joe Shomo

On Sept. 17, St. Johns County celebrated the remarkable life and service of Mr. Joe Shomo, a resident of St. Augustine and a World War II veteran, during a recognition ceremony held in the St. Johns County Administration Rotunda. The St. Johns County Office of Public Affairs produced a video to honor the occasion.
