County Encourages Preparedness Ahead of Peak Hurricane Season

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 to Nov. 30) is underway, and St. Johns County Emergency Management (SJCEM) is encouraging the public to be proactive in preparing for potential storms. The St. Johns County Office of Public Affairs produced a 2024 Hurricane Preparedness video in coordination with SJCEM to aid the public. St. Johns County also encourages its residents to take advantage of Florida’s Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holidays. The current Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday runs until Friday, Sept. 6.

Hastings Branch Library Reopening Sept. 3 at W.E. Harris Community Center

The Hastings Branch Library will resume its regular services and hours at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at its temporary location inside the W.E. Harris Community Center, located at 400 E. Recovery of Dead Dolphin from St. Augustine Beach Highlights Collaboration Between St. Johns County Beach Services and FWC

On Tuesday morning, St. Johns County Beach Services and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission worked together to remove a dead dolphin from St. Augustine Beach after a beachgoer reported it to a toll worker. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video documenting the process.

County Labor Day Holiday Office Hours

All non-emergency County offices and libraries will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. All offices and libraries will resume standard business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 3.


The Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road transfer stations will remain open during standard business hours on Sept. 2. Garbage, recycling, and yard debris collection schedules will not be affected. Additionally, residents can download the Recycle Coach app or visit www.recyclestjohns.com to obtain curbside collection schedules, sign up for alerts, and quickly learn how to properly dispose of different household waste materials.
