Agronomy Update | Anthony Baur, GCSAA

As the seasons change, we look forward to improved temperatures and growing conditions. We will begin repairing high-traffic turf areas that experienced winter decline.

Our agronomic program will start with a preventative mole cricket application on April 1, followed by aerification in June and August. Superintendent Anthony Baur continues to implement practices to deliver the best possible playing conditions while adapting to seasonal and climatic variations.

This year’s pre- and post-emergent applications have resulted in exceptionally clean playing surfaces, free of Poa annua.

Bunker / Turf Project

In late summer to early fall, we will complete a re-grassing project around greenside bunker faces and adjacent fringe areas.

The current turf is encroaching onto green surfaces, making this improvement necessary. We will install TifTuf on bunker faces and TifEagle in the surrounding fringe areas. Timing will be communicated once the contractor is finalized.

Restaurant

The restaurant has transitioned to a bar-and-grill concept. Fairways Bar & Grill is ready to serve all your food and beverage needs.

Please note that, per licensing requirements, no outside food or beverage is permitted on the property.

For questions or private event bookings, contact Ili Umansky at iu@hzip.com or (904) 209-0360.

PGA Junior League

We are excited to introduce an in-house PGA Junior League team. Modeled after Little League, this program provides a fun, team-based environment focused on skill development and on-course play.

Jared Cross will lead the program with support from our professional staff. Our goal is to transition into inter-club competition within the first season.

For more information, contact Jared at jared.a.cross@gmail.com or speak with him during your next visit.

Practice with the Pros

We are introducing a new instructional series: Practice with the Pro! These sessions will offer a more interactive and personalized alternative to traditional clinics, featuring small group sizes to encourage discussion and hands-on learning.

Topics, instructors, and dates will vary, so stay tuned for details.

Lightning

Lightning is a serious safety hazard. The course is equipped with an automated alert system:

  • 1 blast – Suspend play immediately
  • 3 blasts – Resume play

Please seek shelter at designated on-course locations:

  • Hole 7 (near tee)
  • Hole 11 (near green)
  • Hole 14 (near tee)

If possible, return to the clubhouse.

Summer Heat

As temperatures rise, please take precautions:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Wear light-colored, breathable clothing
  • Apply sunscreen regularly
  • Use proper headwear and sunglasses

With temperatures continuing to rise, please stay hydrated, wear loose, light-colored clothing, apply sunscreen regularly, and wear proper headwear and sunglasses for eye protection.
