Pastor's Message
Courageous Catholics and Intentional Disciples
You have probably noticed by now that I have been speaking a lot about the need for all of us, through our actions and our words, to be committed Catholics who are focused on bringing more people into a personal relationship with Christ and His Church. This is the essence of evangelization and it is what Pope Francis modeled for us in his visit to Cuba and the USA last week and precisely what Pope Francis calls us to do; "We have to become courageous Catholics and seek out those who are the flesh of Christ."

At our September Pastoral Council meeting we considered how we could best respond to the call for a New Evangelization and what specific actions we could take in the coming year. The Canadian Council of Catholic Bishops has identified three ways that we can evangelize in today's challenging environment of religious pluralism:
1)       The witness of an encounter (personal relationship with Christ)
2)       The witness of a fraternal life (welcoming, friendly and forgiving Church community)
3)       The witness of selfless service (love for the other)
In the coming months we will look to enhance our efforts in each of these areas. Our goal will be to develop in all parishioners such an enthusiasm for their faith that, in living their faith with Jesus, all will become disciples and freely share their faith with others.

But it all starts with our attitude. To renew a spirit of evangelization we must become intentional disciples and pursue our goals with humility and joyful confidence. Ultimately it is the saving action of the Holy Spirit that brings about conversion but every member of our Church family must see it as their duty to bring others to a personal relationship with Christ and His Church and this should touch every dimension of our parish life here at St. Leonard. Welcome, acceptance, the invitation to conversion and renewal, reconciliation and peace, beginning with our worship must characterize the tenor of our parish. In all of this we should have every confidence that God is with us, for in Matthew we  read: " Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matt 28: 18-20

Growing your Faith
