A Message from the Principal...
Dear St. Louis Families,

Happy Friday! Today in mass, the students celebrated the Memorial of St. John Chrysostom, who was born in the 4th century in Antioch. He is a bit of a genius and a scholar whose eloquent communication earned him the surname Chrysostom, which means golden mouthed. His last words were, “Glory to God for all things.” We honor him for his courage and his faith.
This was a busy week for our students as we began our online Performance Series adaptive testing in Reading for grades 3-7. Students will continue assessments in Language Arts and Math over the next couple weeks. Our primary grades (Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd) are beginning online assessments in Math and Reading with the adaptive HMH Inventory Testing over the next couple weeks as well. The teachers look forward to having the data for instructional planning, and they will be sharing it with you at Parent-Teacher conferences later in the Fall. All classrooms were busy this week with instruction and learning activities, and our 8th graders traveled to Hemlock Adventures in Herndon, VA where they worked on leadership and team building skills. I was so pleased to hear of their efforts together in addition to the memories they created.
I look forward to seeing all of you next week on Tuesday or Thursday night (or both), as we welcome you to our first PTO meeting and Back-to-School Night. All families are invited to join us Tuesday evening - we will gather at 7pm in McClunn Hall for the business portion of the PTO meeting followed by the Back-to-School sessions for K-5 students. Middle School Back-to-School Night for grades 6-8 begins at 6:30pm in the John Paul II building (middle school), and parents are invited to go directly to their child’s homeroom to pick up schedules. Our Preschool Parent Open House is also Thursday, September 19th, 7-8pm and all preschool parents are welcome to meet their teachers in the preschool classrooms.
Let us remember St. John Chrysostom’s words, giving God our greatest glory. Many blessings as you begin your weekend!

A note about Back-to-School Night Tuesday evening...
Please know that Fairfax County has scheduled a transportation meeting to discuss the impending Route 1 widening project at Bryant HS on September 17th during the same time as our Back to School/PTO night. I have arranged with FCPD to help monitor and close off our school parking lots to non-school families. They will be on premise between 5-8pm. I want you all to be alert and know that you may need to show either your St. Louis carpool tag or let the officers know you are with St. Louis in order to enter the lots. Please respectfully follow police direction and understand that with all the extra cars and traffic on Popkins Lane Tuesday evening, extra time may be needed in order to get into our parking lots.

CYO Volunteer Needed
The Diocese of Arlington uses an online platform for CYO sports registration, and we need someone on the back end at St. Louis to set up the teams and troubleshoot for the parents and coaches who struggle with online registration. The person currently doing this work has a 7th grader and would like to train his successor this year.
The bulk of the work will come in mid-Oct. to early-Nov. as basketball teams are finalized, with set-up work in late summer and early spring as well. You need NOT be VIRTUS compliant. If interested, please contact Judy Conti at . Thank you!
More volunteer opportunities...
Volunteers must have completed the VIRTUS training seminar AND have a background check clearance to participate in these volunteer opportunities.
