St. Louis Catholic School Newsletter
FEBRUARY 8, 2019
A Message from the Principal...
Dear St. Louis Families,
We had a full week… and plenty of warm sun! In fact, we were able to get in a fire drill without worries of coats on Tuesday. The weather change was a welcome reprieve from the prior week and certainly a nice way to enter February.
It was a joy to watch our 7th and 8th graders in action on Thursday night for the 2019 Science Fair! Mrs. Miller has been leading our students through the scientific method and experiment process since September, and the results were tables full of excellent projects. I am so proud of all the student participants, and I am grateful for so many parents and parishioners who brought their expertise to the judging arena for the evening. The judges were kind enough to offer how knowledgeable and prepared our students were. The winners will be announced at assembly on Monday, and I will send out a list of the winners in next week's newsletter.
Next week brings the winter PTO meeting (which was rescheduled from an inclement weather day in January). I hope to see many of you there on Tuesday night, Feb. 12 th  at 7pm in the cafeteria. The business portion of the meeting will cover current events and the upcoming Silent Auction, and the speaker portion of the evening will highlight the principal and assistant principal of Bishop Ireton High school, Mrs. Denise Tobin and Mrs. Lonnell Battle, who will be talking about the progression of math instruction in high school. It is a great opportunity to look forward to see where your children are headed once they leave the elementary/middle school world.
Scantron Performance Series testing is done three times a year in grades 3 through 7 - in September, late January, and May. The mid-year diocesan testing session just finished on February 6 th , and results will be going home with students in folders next Friday. Our Kinder-2 nd grade HMH Reading and Math Inventory Assessments are finishing up early next week with results going home two weeks from now in Friday Folders. All final testing sessions for the year will be held during the month of May, with final results of progress going home in their final report card envelopes.
Be sure to pick up a bulletin after Mass each week. There is now a page each week devoted to the school, highlighting and advertising events. We are grateful to Father O’Hare for this chance to share all the wonderful things happening at St. Louis School!

It’s that time of year!

The clinic is running low on paper towels and tissues. We would be grateful for your donations. We prefer select-a-size style paper towels for reducing waste, and small box tissues fit best in our storage. However, we appreciate any donation.
Thank you for your generosity and commitment to student health!
From the PTO President...
This year’s Catholic Schools Week committee was met with many challenges to the schedule and they did an amazing job. The students and the teachers had a wonderful time and the PTO would like to say than you to everyone that was involved in planning this great week. Thank you to Matt Spierenburg for stepping up to chair this fun week, and to Jennifer Ledbetter for helping to make the week enjoyable for everyone. Matt and his committee were completely flexible in order to accommodate the changing schedule. They did not let any of the changes put a damper on the fun week. The PTO thrives because of volunteers like those involved with Catholic Schools Week.
