A Message from the Principal...
Dear St. Louis Families,

Today we celebrated our veterans and veteran families with a special Mass and reception. We were blessed to receive our Purple Star Recognition from the state of Virginia, and we look forward to proudly displaying our coin and seal in the front hallway of the school. Our military families are just one more way that we share in diversity and celebrate our differences. St. Louis is a special place, where we are immersed in academic excellence and dedicated to working with students of all learning abilities and backgrounds.

We are grateful to all of our parents who joined us this past week for parent-teacher conferences… and next week is a full week of school for our students! We will be treated to a special cultural arts assembly on Nov. 15 th , thanks to our PTO. Our students will see a presentation called Cantaré, where Latin American Music is introduced to the beautiful songs and rhythms of Latin America in an exciting interactive performance. Cantaré performs an entertaining blend of songs in Spanish and Portuguese, while sharing the music's cultural and historical background. Thank you to Nicole Scully and Meghan Roberts, our cultural arts team, for planning all of this year’s events!

Don’t forget to bring in your canned goods to help fill the UCM food bank shelves! The student goal is 5,000 items by Nov. 19 th . If we achieve our goal, we get a comfy clothes day on Nov. 20 th before heading off to Thanksgiving Break. We can do it!

Peace,
Kathleen McNutt
Principal

Calling All CYO Parents - Mandatory Parent Training Session
WHO: Parents of every child participating in a CYO sport
WHEN: Wed., Nov. 14, 8-9pm; Thurs., Nov. 15, 7-8pm; or Sat., Nov. 17, 9-10am
WHERE: St. Louis School Cafeteria

The Diocese of Arlington’s Office of Youth, which oversees all CYO sports, has put together a 25 minute video presentation that they’ve asked all parishes to show to CYO parents before the basketball season begins. They are requiring that at least one parent of every child participating in a CYO sport (that includes track, cross country, cheerleading, basketball and volleyball) attend a session at the parish and see this video.  We are to keep attendance lists and check them against registration to ensure compliance.  The Diocese has put this together because in recent years, more and more parents are engaging in increasingly unacceptable behavior at games and events. And while St. Louis parish has had very few problems in terms of parental behavior, the Diocese is trying to clearly lay out expectations for everyone. In order to make sure that you have every opportunity to see this video, we have set up three different sessions, each in the cafeteria. They will be held on Wednesday, November 14 from 8 to 9 pm, Thursday, November 15 from 7 to 8 pm, and on Saturday, November 17, from 9 to 10 am. Please make sure that one parent for every CYO participant attends one of these sessions. We hope to have you out in about 45 minutes. Many thanks!
CYO Cross Country News
Over 30 St. Louis athletes competed in the CYO Cross Country Championship meet on November 4th at Ft. Hunt Park. Although the school teams did not have any top three finishes, St. Louis runners showed true cross country spirit competing in wet and muddy conditions and posted numerous impressive individual results, including many runners posting their personal best. In addition, Maddy Howard won the St. Sebastian Award as 3rd grade girl runner with the lowest time across the three races this season.

Author Visit at St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School - Nov. 16
Pride Wars: The Spinner Prince  author Matt Laney will visit St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes school. An unforgettable adventure, this first book in the Pride Wars series introduces a world where honor and duty, ferocity and faith, are tested by an unexpected hero.   Pride Wars: The Spinner Prince  is geared towards readers in grades 4-8. Readers from the Middle and Lower Schools are encouraged to stop by the Sinclair Library (400 Fontaine St., Alexandria, VA 22302) from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Students from other local area schools are also welcome to attend this event. All children must be accompanied by a chaperone. School Library Journal calls this book, “A strongly developed anthropomorphized animal adventure.” Mrs. Krut recommends it for fans of the Wings of Fire and Erin Hunter’s Warriors series.
