A Message from the Principal...
Dear St. Louis Families,
It is always great to be a Hawk, and tomorrow we celebrate our Hawks pride in a special way with our 5K and Hawks Day!  We are so grateful for all of the amazing organization that has gone into preparing for Saturday's events. If you have not signed up for the 5K or the Fun Run, it’s not too late! See the information in this newsletter for the timetable of events on Saturday, Oct. 20 th .

The entire school walked for the homeless on Thursday. It was quite a sight to see everyone focused and reverent (our virtue this month!) as we walked and prayed the rosary, and we were blessed with beautiful weather. Thank you to those families who made donations to UCM – that money will go to help the needs of many in our community.

This week began the second half of the trimester - interims and progress reports have gone home today for some students in folders. Please see your child’s folder also for information on the Diocesan Formation in Christian Chastity program, which begins later next week. Remember that there is no school on Friday, Oct. 26th - it is a professional development day for all the teachers of the diocese.

I look forward to cheering on all of our runners tomorrow and to visiting with families during the festival. Blessings for your weekend!

P.S. It’s ZUMBA time this Tuesday (Oct. 24 th )! Students will have a special ZUMBA exercise class on Tuesday morning (thanks to our PTO) so ALL STUDENTS may wear their P.E. uniforms to school on Tuesday!

Weekly Prayer Intentions

Sunday is the Last Day for November Lunch Orders!
Lunch orders are now being accepted for November! All orders must be placed online.

Time to Celebrate, Book Lovers!
The St. Louis School Book Fair is Almost Here!
Opening day is Hawks Day, October 20th. We will be open after the races until the close of the fair. Best selections available on opening day!
The fair will also be open:
Monday October 22: 8 am-6 pm
Tuesday October 23: 8 am-6 pm
Wednesday October 24: 8am-4 pm (closes early)
Thursday October 25: 8 am-6 pm
CLOSED Friday, October 26—no school that day
Classes will visit during designated browse and buy times. Adults are welcome to come in during the school day and after dismissal.

Veteran's Day Mass
Veteran’s Day is approaching and we are preparing for our annual Veteran’s Day Mass. We hope you will consider joining us for this very special liturgy recognizing the importance of our veterans, both living and deceased. The Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 9, 2018 at 8:45 AM. If you would like to participate in the Mass, please see the attached flyer for more information.

Spirit Dinner - Monday, October 22nd
Bring yourselves, your family, friends and the attached flyer to Noodles on October 22, 2018 from 4-8PM. Lots of choices even for those who do not eat pasta and/or are gluten free. Come help the PTO raise funds for our school projects. We will receive 25% of the sales of our supporters. They will no longer allow us to have two dates so let's make this big on the one day we have. Swing by before or after practice!
Box Tops
The deadline to submit any Box Tops is Friday, October 26th. Please send them into school via Kid Mail to Laura Fannon - Ryan 4-1.

This is a great and easy way to support our school. These Box Tops are turned into cash that the school can use as needed!! 
Silent Auction Raffle
This year's PTO Silent Auction will be held on February 23, 2019. The theme this year is A Night on Broadway. Tickets are selling fast for this event. Please consider purchasing a raffle ticket for our NYC Broadway Getaway. 

The Raffle includes transportation via Amtrak (up to 4), lodging, $500 towards dinner at Marea (Italian hotspot in NYC) & $500 towards the show of your choice. Raffle tickets will be on sale at Hawks Day (10/20) and after Masses 10/21/18. Raffle tickets are $20 each or 3 tickets for $50.  Tickets can also be purchased on-line at or through kid mail with the attached  flyer
Volunteer Opportunities
Individual families are required to track their volunteer hours throughout the school year and to submit them to the PTO Volunteer Coordinators for credit.

Volunteers must have completed the VIRTUS training seminar AND have a background check clearance to participate in these volunteer opportunities.

Extracurricular & CYO
CYO Track Meet Results
The St. Louis track team competed in the CYO Fall Meet on September 29th. The team did an excellent job. It had 105 finishes in first through sixth places, including 31 first place finishes, which was the most of any team at the meet. The team had 16 second place finishes and 12 third place finishes.  

By grades, the 5/6 team came in 2nd place overall! The 3/4 team came in 5th place overall and the 7/8 team came in 6th place overall.  

Equally importantly, our internal team records found that every athlete on the team either achieved a personal best or competed in an event for the first time. That level of personal excellence and courage is very impressive, In addition, our athletes consistently showed excellent sportsmanship by competing hard, cheering for their teammates while still being kind and friendly with their opponents. 

All of the track coaches want to thank our awesome athletes and their helpful and supportive parents who made this such a great and productive season.

Eagle Scout Project: Orthopedic Equipment Drive
David Fleming, a Boy Scout with Saint Louis’s troop 680, is looking for donations for his Eagle Scout project. He will be organizing a collection of any orthopedic supplies including braces, crutches, and similar items. Additionally, if you don’t have any orthopedic items, you can also donate supplies such as new pillows or blankets. The drive will be held from Sunday, October 14 to Sunday, October 28. Items can be dropped off by the St. Louis School entrance after all Sunday Masses, or at the school office during the week. Please see the flyer for more information. Thank you for your donations.
Annual Catholic Charities Fall Harvest Food Drive: Oct. 20-21
Please be sure to pick up a BLUE BAG either at Hawk's Day or after all Masses the weekend of October 20-21. Take it home, fill it with some of the suggested nonperishable food items (NO GLASS PLEASE), and return it to St.Louis School during the week, or to the Church October 27-28. All items collected will be distributed through the St. Lucy's Project, Catholic Charities Diocese of Arlington, to feed our neighbors who are hungry from Alexandria to the western counties of our diocese in Appalachia. Thank you for your generosity. 
Bishop Ireton H.S. Events
October 21 – BISHOP IRETON OPEN HOUSE for prospective families 1-4pm. As a diocesan high school we value our relationship with our local diocesan elementary schools. Please RSVP using  this link.  
November 3 - HACK BI  Open to all 8th graders. Free event for all those interested in technology and coding.   Click here to visit the event website for registration and details.  
Bishop Ireton High School encourages all 8th grade students to shadow at Bishop Ireton, called our “Cardinal for a Day Program” . Directions to do that can be found on our website   here .  Parents should know that shadowing is available in both a full day or half day option.
