Dear St. Luke Families,

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning for the first day of school.

I thought it would be helpful to share a few reminders about pick up and drop off. Please know that your child’s safety is extremely important to us. In order to keep all of our students safe, it is imperative that all parents and guardians follow the guidelines for drop off and pick up:

  • Ashland Avenue is a one-way street during school hours. Please access Ashland from the south at Lake Street.
  • The student drop off lane on Ashland is for dropping off ONLY! You may not exit your car for any reason while in the drop off lane. Your child should be able to exit the car on their own and quickly if using this lane. If you want to walk your child to the school doors, you must park in the parking lot or on Ashland north of the lot. When using the drop off lane, you must pull as far forward as possible before letting your children exit the car. This is imperative to keep traffic moving.
  • Do not block our neighbors driveways. Parking is NOT allowed under any circumstances on the west side of Ashland directly across from school. This is not only for your child’s safety, but is also a show of respect for our neighbors. If you park on the street, please do so north of the parking lot.
  • Do not drop off your child in the middle of the street. If the drop off line it backed up, please pull into the lot or pull to the curb north of the parking lot. Discharging a passenger in the street is not only illegal, it is extremely dangerous.
  • If you park in the lot, please pull in as far as you can and park facing north whenever possible. For our student’s safety, we ask that you avoid parking in a spot where you have to back up. We realize that this isn’t always possible, but please do so whenever you can. The parking lot is open during both drop off and pick up.
  • Please be patient and respectful of other families. Most of us are in a rush in the morning but it is very important to slow down and pay attention to our surroundings.

As a reminder, students in grades one through eight enter school through the main doors on Ashland (Door #1). The doors open at 8:00 am and students proceed directly to their classrooms. Students are expected to be in their classrooms no later than 8:10 am.

Preschool and kindergarten students enter at the gym doors (Door #8) on Ashland. Beginning Thursday, teachers will open the doors at 8:00 am and welcome the students. Students will wait together inside until all their classmates arrive, at which time they will all proceed to their classroom or the gym together. Tomorrow morning parents and students can go to the gym doors at their designated time for drop in day.

Thank you for your attention to these important safety details. Please be sure to share these guidelines with anyone who will be dropping off or picking up your child from school.

Sincerely,

Mr. Andrew DiMarco
