Bearcat Athletics Update

Cross Country

Luke McConnell became the first 5th grade Bearcat in history to qualify for an IESA State Finals. In fact, Luke was one of only 21 other 5th graders to qualify from Class 1A schools for the championship meet. Of those incredible 21 different 5th graders that ran at the Finals, Luke was the 5th one to cross the finish from that class, earning another sub 13 minute, 2 mile finish, officially in 12:37.9.

Our 7th/8th varsity girls running at the CYO in Maryville made their own history, becoming the first St. Luke varsity girls squad to ever earn the 1st place team score CYO trophy for the school, competing against the 12 other strong XC programs present! The 7th/8th girls present at the CYO were (in alphabetical order) Fiona Connelly, Tess Cullerton, Mimi Devereux, Isabelle Lefko, Destiny Sacluti, Caroline Sheahan, and Mia Winter.

W had many other amazing Bearcat trophy and medal recipients for individual honors at the CYO event:

2nd place Fiona Connelly (Varsity girls trophy honoree)

6th place  Destiny Sacluti (Varsity girls trophy honoree)

7th place Isabelle Lefko  (Varsity girls trophy honoree)

8th place Caroline Sheahan (Varsity girls trophy honoree)

Soccer

St. Luke and St. Vincent collaborated for a pair of special "pink out" soccer matches to raise money for breast cancer. We were challenged by our neighbors to raise money and to play for two impressive trophies. Congratulations to our 6th and 8th grade soccer team for capturing the inaugural Lathrop Legacy cups! 8th grade had a thrilling shootout victory and 6th blanked their opponent. Good luck to all of our soccer teams in playoffs!

Way to go, Bearcats!

Teacher Spotlight: Stephanie Santucci

Each month our Student Council members will interview a teacher for our Teacher Spotlight.

Meet 4th Grade Teacher Stephanie Santucci

Miss Santucci has been a part of the St. Luke community since 2019. She graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and an Endorsement in English as a Second Language. In her first year she taught 5th grade, and the other three years in 4th grade. She is currently working towards earning her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Ever since she was a child, Miss Santucci enjoyed school and always wanted to be a teacher.

Miss Santucci believes in Catholic education because she believes in the well-rounded students that are a product of Catholic schools and the faith-filled community it creates. Her favorite thing about the St. Luke community is how all of the families are very involved in the school. Her favorite thing about being a teacher is that she gets to help her students grow as people. This year, Miss Santucci is a part of Student Council, Reading Olympics, and the committee for Catholic Schools Week.
