UTO In-gathering Nov. 7-8
The fall ingathering of the United Thank Offering will take place at services on November 7 and 8.
UTO is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through UTO, men, women, and children nurture the habit of giving daily thanks to God. These prayers of thanksgiving start when we recognize and name our many daily blessings. Those who participate in UTO discover that thankfulness leads to generosity. UTO is entrusted to promote thank offerings, to receive the offerings, and to distribute the UTO monies to support mission and ministry throughout the Episcopal church and the invited Provinces of the Anglican Communion in the developing world.
Twice a year United Thank Offerings are collected and sent on to the national UTO Board to be used for grants the following spring. Coins dropped in blue boxes all over the world in thanksgiving become blessings for others. While this offering has been going on since 1883 when the first in-gathering for mission and ministry totaled $371.20, it was in New York at the 1889 Triennial meeting that the Women's Auxiliary instituted the United Thank Offering. The increases kept coming until 2014/2015 when the total was $1,558,006.85. Amazingly, of the most recent ingathering, a remarkable 79% was derived from Blue Boxes.

Are you being called to serve?
At the end of this year, three vestry members will be retiring from the Vestry. The work of the Vestry is done in partnership with the Rector. The Vestry and Rector are to
co-create a vision for St. Luke's that is a response to God's call and a plan to carry out that vision. The Vestry is a leadership team both in material matters of the Church and in spiritual matters. Are you being called to serve? For more information on the role of the Vestry, feel free to ask any Vestry member or Fr. Pierre-Henry Buisson, our Rector.
Each Vestry term is three (3) years in length. There will be three vacancies. Also being sought are candidates to serve as delegates to Diocesan Convention, which takes place each October in Phoenix. St. Luke's has five (5) lay delegates and, on occasion, has the need for an alternate delegate or two. The lay delegates serve for one (1) Diocesan Convention. These are elected positions within the parish.
The election takes place at our Annual Parish Meeting on Sunday, January 25, 2016.
Pumpkin Sale Results & Halloween Feast
Read below the note from Sophie Buisson, Children's Ministry & Youth Director:
The results are in!
We have made a $600 profit! This is so great; the youth and I are very grateful for your generosity!
We are off a good start to afford our mission trip in Cortez, Colorado, in summer of 2016.
Yay, Go Youth!
I can't believe that Halloween is already over!
I want to give a big THANK YOU for each and every one of you who came and helped, it would not have been a success without you!
Our biggest challenge for our first Halloween Feast was the many events happening around town. Despite it, we had about twenty teens and kids all together, and they had a BLAST!
Next year, I will not make the mistake of planning this event on or too close to Halloween. I realized too late that a lot of families had to make a choice between Trick-or-Treating and coming to St Luke's. Next time, I will make sure that the date will allow everybody to come without missing out on anything.
Now, moving on to CRAFTIVITY: December 12th!

This Week's Scripture Readings
Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost
1 Kings 17:8-16
O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of the devil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
