St. Luke's Weekly E-pistle
Week of November 22, 2015

Good afternoon,

Advent is almost at hand! On November 29, the church will enter in this so special time of Advent. A blessed time of preparation for the celebration of Christmas. For many people today, there is not such a thing as an Advent season... For our consumerist society, there is just Christmas season, or to be politically correct "holiday season." This is a time to buy stuff; a time to think about the gifts we are going to exchange; a time to organize dinners, receptions, parties, and, very often, when Christmas arrives, we are physically, emotionally, financially, and spiritually exhausted. This way of preparing oneself for Christmas is not what the church has in mind!

Advent is a time of spiritual preparation. Advent is a time of longing for the coming of the Lord. Advent is the joyful expectation of the hope, joy, peace, and light of Christmas. Even if we have material preparations to do, let us not forget the spiritual component of Advent. Let us reclaim Advent in our lives! Let us be focused on what really matters for the season: a quiet time of spiritual preparation.

During this busy season, intentionally, we will not have any special program during the four weeks of Advent. Rather, I invite you to slow down the pace. I invite you to take the time to breathe. I invite you to take the time to read the Bible and spiritual books. I invite you to take the time to be silent in the presence of the Lord and to pray. Advent is a wonderful time to be centered on the Lord!

Have a blessed Advent,

Your brother in Christ,
Pierre-Henry+

The Building & Grounds Fall Clean-up on November 20, was a great success! Many chores were completed - both inside and out. Leaves were raked and gathered, trees and bushes trimmed, floors mopped, the Sanctuary was prepared for Thanksgiving, the kitchens cleaned and more. Fellowship and fun were shared as the work got done! The group enjoyed a delicious lunch. Many thanks to all who participated!
