St. Luke's Weekly Epistle

Week of January 14 , 2018

Annual Parish Meeting: January 21, 2018, at 11:30 a.m., following the 10 a.m. service, in the Parish Hall.
Please plan to attend this very important meeting in the life of the parish!
Vestry Candidates
For 2018 there will be three open positions on our Vestry due to retiring members. We are currently looking for individuals willing to run in the election held during our annual meeting in January. To be eligible, the individual needs to be at least 18 years of age and a communicant member in good standing. According to St. Luke's by-laws this would be a communicant member who for the previous year has been faithful in corporate worship and who has been faithful in working, praying, and giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God. To view the complete job description and requirements please click here.

We are also looking for our new  Junior Warden, to be elected for a one-year term. One of the traditional responsibilities of the Junior Warden is to oversee the maintenance of the buildings and so to work in close relationship with the chairperson of Building and Grounds Commission. Click here  for the Junior Warden's job description.

As of 1/12/18, the candidates for positions to be elected at Annual Meeting are as follows:
Vestry Candidates: Mary Berkheiser, Ernie Howell, Earl Poole
Junior Warden: no candidates yet
Delegates to Diocesan Convention: Leanne Bryan, Barbara Harber, Liz Kennedy, Rich Staudt, Keehna Sture

We hope the list of candidates will grow. Elections will take place on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at the Annual Parish Meeting!

Please contact Dwight Willman if you have questions and you would be interested in serving.
37th Annual Don't Spend Christmas Alone
The Don't Spend Christmas Alone committee would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all the parishioners for assisting in making this year's event a huge success. Without all the participation    from volunteers, 845 meals would not have been served to those individuals who might otherwise have gone without a delicious and nourishing meal on Christmas Day in the Quad Cities. Of the 845 meals served, 320 meals were delivered to the home-bound and 525 guests were served at St. Luke's. After the guests had enjoyed their meal, and upon their departing the church, they were given a bag of scrumptious homemade cookies to take with them donated by many of you.
The Don't Spend Christmas Alone committee was honored and grateful to have been involved with this special event. It solidified our belief in how generous, compassionate and loving the congregation is at St. Luke's.

Photos of the event will be shared for all to view. More information regarding the event will be provided in the January Annual Report.

Our wish for each of you is that 2018 is filled with many blessings and much happiness.

Carol Sweeden, Muriel deGanahl, George Chesney and Cynthia Moreno

Spirituality for the Second Half of Life Ministry Event
You are invited to join us for an event scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. to introduce this new ministry in the Diocese.
We all optimistically embark on a new phase of our lives in our 50s as we begin to contemplate retirement and a whole new way of living. But this exploration of new ways continues into our 90s and beyond - seemingly ever changing. We want to spend some fellowship time with you considering what we want this second half of our lives to look like - and how God desires to enter into both the adventure and the challenges - and how we, as a community of faith, can share the journey together - perhaps deciding together on a variety of stage- and age-related activities and gatherings. We hope that you will join us to explore ideas for the St. Luke's "family of sages". We will spend two hours thinking and planning together followed by lunch together at 11:30 a.m. We hope to see you then.

The Reverend Ann Johnson        Linda M. William, PhD, CSD

Please indicate your plan to attend on the sign-up sheet in the Gathering Hall
or call the Parish Office at 928-778-4499.

Lenten Soup Suppers
Can't believe that Lent is just around the corner!  Didn't we just celebrate Christmas? Each Wednesday in Lent (not Ash Wednesday) a group provides soups for the parish to share. It is fun and delicious! Please check with your group to see if they are willing to offer this evening of food and fellowship. The dates available are 2/21, 2/28, 3/7, 3/14, 3/21, and 3/28. Call Pam Williams if you need more information. 928-277-8226. Sign-up sheets will be out this Sunday.
Help Wanted!
St. Luke's Ushers
We are in need of someone who would be willing to oversee and coordinate the usher ministry, which would include recruitment of more ushers. Might this be you? Please contact the Parish Office at  info@slecp.org.
St. Luke's Greeters
We have been told numerous times by our visitors that we are a very welcoming church. I believe that one of those reasons is that we have such wonderful greeters at each service who provide a warm smile and a friendly welcome to our visitors. In the 8:00 am Sunday morning service, we have only four couples who are regular Greeters with each one taking one Sunday per month. We are in great need of more people who would be willing to step forward to help us out. If you can offer a smile and a warm hello, please call or email Linda Taylor at 928-379-5936 or  lindactaylor10@yahoo.com.
Photographers Wanted!

Have you taken any photos at a recent church event? The Communication Commission would love to share them on our media outlets! The photos can be of meetings, special events, and anything in between! Cell phone pictures are welcomed. Please email the largest size available photos to communications@slecp.org or text them to 734-771-2397. Thank you!
