We're going to have the trip of a lifetime to Babylon this summer!

A Taste of Babylon!
VBS offers our children the chance to become part of biblical history as they visit Babylon during the time of Daniel's captivity. They'll also have the chance to taste foods common at that time. Will you please consider helping us provide the snacks?
On Sunday, June 3rd, there will be a sign-up sheet on the Gathering Hall table listing specific non-perishable foods you can donate. These include: flatbread, raisins, dates, dried figs, dried apricots, dried plums and canned sausage (such as Vienna sausage). A collection box will be near the table for your contributions. If you prefer to donate money, there will also be a donation jar (by the sign-up sheet) with the proceeds used to purchase the beverages and perishable foods such as fruit and cheese.
Thanks in advance for your help in making this year's VBS experience special for the children. Questions? Contact Barb Brubaker (928-515-1969), Mary Hallford (602-796-1177) or Pat Eaton (928-777-1821).

Return to Dresden

June 9- St. Luke's
NEW TIME - Performance at 2:30 pm
Pre-concert talk by Dennis Houser at 2:00 pm :
Enjoy a "preview" of the music the Chorale will be performing on tour in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland this June.   J.A. Hasse's  Messe in d minor 1751 (from the October 2016 concert) will be featured.   Dr. David Wilson's (Professor Emeritus at USC), story about the discovery of the score in Dresden, and his work to bring it to the US is fascinating, and gives the concert its name. The Chorale will also perform works by Rheinberger, Byrd, Schuetz, American spirituals and  Jesus Bleibet meine Freude   by Bach.  Savour a great afternoon of music and send the Chorale off on their Return to Dresden tour!

Blood Drive on June 13!
Give blood! Save a life! Every 2 seconds, someone needs blood. Most of us will need blood in our lifetime. Be a Hero today.

The next blood drive to take place at St. Luke's will be on June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Parish Hall!

Presiding Bishop Curry at the Royal Wedding
For his address, The Most Rev. Michael B. Curry, Presiding Bishop, had 3 audiences--an audience of 2 (Meghan and Harry), an audience of 600 (guests in the chapel), and an audience of 29 million (international TV audience). Delivered on the day before Pentecost it was certainly an example of the Holy Spirit at work in spreading God's message. The message of love is certainly a message for our times and an example that even Episcopalians are called to be evangelists.
Click here to experience one of the great preachers of our time.

One of the hallmarks of our parish is our welcoming spirit.  Each newcomer receives a loaf of WELCOME BREAD when they arrive at our door.  Recently we went to the freezer and the freezer was bare or depleted.  Please leave the bread in the freezer for use at the WELCOME TABLE.  Thank you.

Requirements are a smile and a warm greeting to all folks who come through our front door; a bit of computer and/or office experience is also helpful.

Notes from the Nurse

Just last week, one of our parishioners asked me about cataract surgery. I said that it was a simple procedure nowadays, and that there was no need to feel anxious about it. I decided that this month's column should be about cataracts, since the vast majority of us are going to need to undergo cataract surgery at one point or another. In fact, some of you have already had it!

So  here's some information about cataracts.

- What is a cataract? Put very simply, a cataract is the clouding of the lens of the eye; it causes foggy or blurry vision.

So, get regular eye exams, especially if you think that you might have cataracts, and don't lose any sleep when your ophthalmologist recommends cataract  surgery! The world will look a whole lot brighter, and clearer, afterwards!
-Keehna Sture, R.N., Parish Nurse

Thank You So Much
I would like to take this time to thank each and  every one of you for the prayers, love and support  that you have shared with my family and me!  My mother, who fell in Greece, is presently on the  way home, accompanied by my brother.  She will
arrive EARLY on Thursday and will be placed  temporarily (very important) into a local rehab center. Thanks, again!  Your prayers are tangible and so gratefully

Important Travel Considerations
A couple of things we have found helpful along this  journey:   Have a code word for the doctor or hospital to  use so YOU know the email is legit (and your family doesn't
trash the e-mail before opening it!),   Travel health insurance is expensuve, but worth it when it's  needed-- Medassist-US is a company that will help with negotiating between  the doctor/hospital and the airlines.

Thanks again!  Your prayers are tangible and so gratefully  received.

I'll see you in church!
