St. Luke's Weekly Epistle

Week of October 1 , 2017

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On Saturday, September 30, and Sunday, October 1, we will kick off our annual giving campaign: "Journey to Generosity." In the weeks following, we will explore together how we can live more generously as individuals and as a community of faith.

Your generosity, in response to the abundance in your life, will fund and strengthen the mission and ministry of St Luke's and transform lives.

Here is our roadmap for this year's annual giving campaign:
  • Beginning this Sunday and continuing throughout the pledge drive, our Weekly Epistle will include reflections written by various Episcopal leaders. These reflections will cover stewardship and faithful giving in connection with the Gospel reading of the day, and we will use them for prayer and study throughout the week.
  • Before October 8, you will receive a letter and a Pledge Card by mail.
  • From October 8 to October 29 we will hear four stories of fellow parishioners to help us in our prayer and reflection about generosity.
  • November 4 & 5, All Saints, will be the culmination of our journey, when Pledge Cards will be gathered and joyfully presented as an act of worship and in response to all that God has provided.
With the vestry, we have set two goals for our Journey to Generosity Campaign: receiving 100% of pledge cards from our worshiping community and gathering $495,000 in order to support and extend our ministries, especially our Outreach which is so vital to our Christian vocation.

Thank you for joining us as we consider how we can live more fully into a generous life, in response to God's amazing grace and blessings.

Yours in Christ,
Pierre-Henry Buisson, Rector
Dwight Willman, Senior Warden

Free Table
The Free Table is off to a great start with many items having been given and received. Remember the table is near the piano in the parish hall. Any items on or under the table are free (the table itself is NOT free) and if you have items you wish to give place them on the table or near the piano if the table is not up.
By sharing what we have we help each other, and we help the environment. By giving things we don't currently need a new home we help to cut down on waste and on the need for more stuff to be made and shipped over here.
The table will be available at all three services, so whenever you worship, stop by and see what curiosities are available! It changes each week.

Lost and Found
Lost and found items have been placed in a box on the table in the Gathering Hall. If not claimed by September 30, they will be donated to the upcoming yard sale.

The  lessons for October 1 remind me of growing up in the Episcopal Church and how the people questioned God's faithfulness. How they dared to put God to the test.
