Don't Spend Christmas Alone, 2016
St. Luke's Gift to the Community
DSCA - The anticipated event day had arrived.
Early morning of December 25th, the kitchen team was sending messages to each other reporting having trouble getting to church due to snow. The office phone was ringing off the hook as volunteers and guests called to cancel their participation due to weather conditions. The kitchen staff got to their destination two hours later than anticipated including the event Chair who called the Police department for a ride. Members of the meal delivery team got their boxes and snow and icy roads did not stop them from achieving their task. The Volunteer table got swamped with the challenge of delays, cancellations and phoning stand-bys. A cheerful holiday décor dining room opened its doors right on time with an inspirational opening prayer led by Pauline Buisson. Greeters, Coat Room helpers, Hostesses, Waiters and Waitresses, Bussers and youth dispensing dinner rolls, all rushed about in incredible coordination bringing guests' beverages, specially prepared foods and scrumptious slices of pies. Cheery carols in the background and a visit from Santa Claus further the joy of the moment. Satisfied guests left with a bag of cookies, a holiday wish Christmas card, and more importantly, they took with them reminiscences of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Prescott, who put together an event called Don't Spend Christmas Alone, exclusively for each one of them. Congratulations St. Luke's members; you are the gift!

DSCA-2016 will include a report in the annual January meeting.  You are welcome to visit a photo display in the Church Hall after this weekend's services.  For more photos, visit St. Luke's Face Book and Web Site.

Happy New Year! Angeles Ramos Zarate, Chairwoman

Is God Calling You?
The Vestry of St. Luke's shares leadership with the Rector in creating a plan of action that will represent God's dream for our congregation. Being a Vestry member is a true exercise in collaboration as we discern what we believe God's dream is for St. Luke's. Three members of our current Vestry will be retiring and we are looking for people willing to be considered for a position during our annual election on January 22. In order to be considered, you must be confirmed or received into the Episcopal church, have been a member for 6 months, and be an active pledger. Please contact Lucy Kemper at if you have questions and/or are interested in being of service.

St. Luke's Centering Prayer group meets on the second and fourth Fridays of each month, from 9:00-10:15 a.m., in the Meditation Room, which is located next to the Library in the Parish Hall.

Contemplative prayer, the "umbrella" under which Centering Prayer exists, is the opening of our whole being to God, the Ultimate Mystery.  Its purpose is personal transformation: to move us toward a life that is ever more closely united to, and reflective of, God.
Centering Prayer is a method of contemplative prayer that carries us beyond words, thoughts, feelings, and internal discourse to an encounter with the Divine Presence within us.
