St. Luke's Weekly Epistle
Week of November 24
The office will be closed on Thursday and Friday November 28 and 29 in observance of Thanksgiving Day.
We bless you,
God of Seed and Harvest
And we bless each other
That the beauty of this world
And the love that created it
Might be expressed though our lives
And be a blessing to others
Now and always    AMEN
Update from Beth Parknowitz,
our Parish Administrator
Saturday, I participated in the Undy Run Walk in Phoenix, along with family and friends. This event was organized by the Colorectal Cancer Alliance to create awareness and raise funds for the prevention of colorectal cancer. I walked with our daughters, Emma and Kasey, while Chuck, my husband, ran the 5-K. It was an amazing, fun, and inspiring day!  I loved every minute of it - sore feet and all. I even got to meet several other survivors! I definitely plan on doing the event next year.   I am undergoing treatment for stage 1 rectal cancer and have just completed my third round of chemotherapy with one to go. It will begin the day before Thanksgiving. For more detailed information on my journey, go to: I am thankful to Fr. Pierre-Henry for his support and prayers as well as that of the Vestry and. I am full of gratitude for your prayers and loving wishes. I am also so grateful to all the volunteers who keep the office running so smoothly. I look forward to the day I get to come back with this journey behind me.  Wishing each of you a warm and happy Thanksgiving!

Christmas at Perryville
December 14, 10:30 am in the conference room
Again this year we will be addressing Christmas cards to send to the women imprisoned at Perryville.   It's hard to communicate just how devastating it is for these women and mothers not to be with their loved ones for the holidays. Some have even been cut off from their families and are especially lonely at this time of year. Cards mean the world to them and shed light into the darkness of isolation.  If you can't come December 14, contact me ( and I will make arrangements to get cards, stamped envelopes, and a list to you.

Journey Jottings:
Notes from St. Luke's Deacon in Formation
The dates of this year's Diocesan Convention impacted the Deacon Formation Academy's calendar, so there were only three weeks between DFA classes in October and November.  To someone unaware of the rigors of deacon formation, three weeks may sound like "no big deal," but, in reality, it truly put a "squeeze" on the Class of 2020 as we juggled internship responsibilities in our host parishes; wrote papers and sermons; maintained our prayer life and spiritual practices; read books; and did our best to keep our lives in balance!  Somehow we got through it, thanks to God's grace! click here to read complete article
The Order of St. Luke Healing Community's December meeting will be a Potluck at the home of the Rev.s Jim  and Susan Schubert. It is scheduled for Monday, December 2nd at 5:30 p.m.. Participants are encouraged to bring their significant other and a salad, side dish or dessert to share. Please phone Susan at 928-308-5942 with any questions and to  let her know if you or you and a guest plan to attend.
Be an Angel - Sponsor a Child for Christmas!
In response to your overwhelming enthusiasm and generosity we are sponsoring 70 children (18 months--18 years), including multiple sibling groups.  We have students from Chino Valley, Prescott, Prescott Valley, and Dewey.  This year also includes many children in the foster care system. The angel Tree will be in  the Gathering Hall for all three services November 23 and 24.   Choose your Christmas Angel, sign up with Lauren, and instructions will be provided. Please join us and make Christmas a little brighter for a child in our neighborhoods.  Thank you to those who have already donated gifts and wrapping supplies, and for thinking of this program all year long. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the support of this parish.
Our Wishing Tree  is a project for the "Christmas Tree Contest" at the Prescott Valley Library. The purpose is to recognize organisations, agencies or churches through an original/artistic tree.   I would like the whole parish to participate in the project by making wishes/prayers and putting them on the tree. You will see in the Parish Hall a couple of baskets filled with tags.   Please take some tags, write your wishes/prayers on them and put them back in the basket for me to collect. (They can remain anonymous)   The youth group will decorate the tree with the colorful tags on December 1st.   During the month of December you could go to the Prescott Valley Library to admire the tree and especially vote for it!   This is a fun project to make St Luke's known in the community!
Thank you for participating.  Sophie Buisson
The Deacon's Voice:
Likely you have seen the commercial showing a person on the floor saying:   "Help, I have fallen and cannot get up."
The purpose of the commercial is to help  people be safe in their homes and obviously to sell fall alerts. These are amazing   pieces of equipment and can make a huge difference in helping people stay safe.
Sighs Too Deep for Words
We have walked in love together on an unexpected journey these two weeks, but it is a holy walk. Jesus never leaves our side on this journey, but sometimes the reminder of Jesus' abiding presence is a quilt, or a card, or a text. My own prayer today is that every family who experiences such a tragedy or event will be similarly supported by their own communities; and my commitment as a Christian is to be ever more faithful in my own prayers for those who are ill or injured.
Don't Spend Christmas Alone
volunteer sign-up sheets
Continuing through Sunday, December 8, volunteer sign-up sheets are in the Gathering Hall for DSCA.   There are many positions and different shift times from which to choose. We ask that you legibly print your first and last name along with a phone number next to the position for which you wish to volunteer. Someone will contact you to confirm.  Thank you for your continued support of this St. Luke's Christmas tradition!

Angel Quilters, don't forget.  We will meet this Thursday, November 21, from 9 a.m. until 12 noon, in Classroom C.  Please be aware we will not meet in December. but will start up again on January 16, 2020.  On Monday Sharon and Linda took our second delivery of 20 quilts to Phoenix Children's Hospital and were given a tour of the hospital.  What an amazing place it is with children and their families uppermost in the minds of everyone connected with the hospital. The photos show  Sharon and Linda with Richard Garcia, the Volunteer Coordinator at the hospital.   Please feel free to contact either Sharon Welker at 928-541-1074 or Linda Leal at 928-717-1647 anytime for more info regarding this heart-warming ministry.
