The Spirituality of Water: The Apache Story from Yesterday to Today, Sept. 24 at 11:30 a.m.
Plan to attend a special presentation, The Spirituality of Water - The Apache Story from Yesterday to Today , on Sunday, September 24, at 11:30 a.m., in the Parish Hall, given by Vincent Randall, Apache Culture Director. This is part of the Diocesan Native American Ministry.
Inquirers' Class Begins Sunday, Sept. 10
Do you want to become a member of the Episcopal Church?

An eight-week series of Inquirers' Classes, to be led by The Rev'd Jack M. Wolter, will begin on September 10, at 11:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of St. Luke's Church to prepare those persons who have not yet been sacramentally confirmed (coming from a Protestant tradition) or received (coming from a Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox tradition) by a bishop in the Episcopal Church, or those who simply want to refresh their understanding of the practice of the Christian Faith in our tradition.

Guest Speaker at Outreach Commission Meeting on Sept. 11
Please join us for the next exciting Outreach meeting Monday, September 11, at 4 p.m. in the Conference Room. Gail Haugland from the Coalition of Compassion and Justice (CCJ) will be speaking about what they are doing in the community as well as the various ways St. Luke's can help. Interested in Outreach in our community??? All are welcome, especially our youth! See you there!

Stephen Ministry Textbooks
Stephen Ministry textbooks are available in the church office for pickup if you wish to preview materials before your first class on September 12 . All materials will be available on the September 12, if you prefer.

Progressive Christian Studies continues Sept. 13
The next session of Progressive Christian Studies entitled America's Religious Faith will resume on Wednesday, September 13, at 5 p.m. in the Conference Room. There will be weekly sessions through December 13 on Wednesday evenings from 5 - 6 p.m. 

The upcoming study will be based on the book American Gospel by Jon Meacham. The series will be facilitated by Fr. Bob Wills. Flyers available in the Gathering Hall.
Faithful Dissent: Loving Our Way into a Brighter Tomorrow
We live in increasingly divisive times. From politics to sports, the gift of human difference can quickly become a chasm that can invite serious discord and division. What does it mean for Christians to disagree? How do we do so faithfully? In this class we get answers from activist Ed Bacon and ethicist Stanley Hauerwas.

This free, 45-minute online class contains video lectures and discussions. No special software is required. Registration is free from September 11 - 24 and open to all. Go to  churchnext.tv --> Menu --> The Big Class to register.
Calling all Building & Grounds Clean-up Volunteers!
We will have our Fall outdoor and kitchens clean-up day on  Saturday, Sept. 16 starting at 8:30 a.m.  We need to have completed the kitchens by  noon  so another function can set up. Please bring cleaning supplies, gloves, hats, towels, and outdoor maintenance equipment.

Elder Appreciation Sunday - Sunday, September 17
ELDER APPRECIATION will be celebrated at St. Luke's on Sunday, September 17th following the  10 am  service. A few more volunteers are needed to make some small sandwiches (tea or finger) or roll-ups and a few trays of fruit for the party. There is a sign-up sheet in the Gathering Hall. Save the Date: Blessing of the Animals on Oct. 8
In honor of St. Francis Day, St. Luke's will hold a Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 8, at 2 p.m. Don't miss this special event! Event flyers are available in the Gathering Hall if you want to share one or a few with family, friends, or neighbors.
A Taste for Mission - Sunday, October 29
Our 3rd Annual Taste for Mission fundraiser will be on October 29th. Volunteers are needed to make appetizers which will be served during the event. If you would be willing to help out with this please contact Pam Williams.

Some additional ways that you could donate to the silent auction other than your art or craft work:
  • a piece of art from your collection that you no longer need
  • offering to cater a dinner which could be auctioned
  • offering time at a vacation home which could be auctioned as well

News from the Diocese
The Gathering 2017
The disease of addiction touches us all, either directly or indirectly. Education and community are two ways we can fight back to help ourselves and others. This fall, the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona is hosting the annual gathering of the international group: Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church (RMEC). The 3-day event covers many aspects of all types of addiction. Topics will include: addiction within indigenous peoples; the current opioid epidemic in this country; codependency; updates on Episcopal recovery program actions and more. All are welcome to attend.

Prayer List for those in the Armed Forces
As you look to the section below, "Your Prayers are Invited...," you will see there is a section for those in the Armed Forces. We would like to attempt to create an accurate list for those individuals on active duty in the Armed Forces. We realize that there are some names on that part of the prayer list that have been on our list for many years!  Will you please re-submit the names of your friends or loved ones that are actively serving in the military by Friday, September 15? Email the office at info@slecp.org. We would like to have a fresh, updated list in the September 24 Weekly Epistle!

The internment of George & Lucy Geib's ashes in the St. Luke's Memorial Garden will take place on Monday, September 11, at 11 a.m. George and Lucy Geib were longtime parishioners at St. Luke's.

British Empire (DBE)

Prescott Evening Lions Club: Pick YOUR Favorite Charity Golf Tournament - September 16, 2017

Greens fee of $125 per golfer include putting contest, range balls for warm-up, shared cart, sleeve of golf balls, team prizes, silent auction, plus awards luncheon. Most important: Greens fee includes a charitable contribution to YOUR favorite charity -- any 501(c)3 non-profit, school or church, or registered working poor charity. Teams will play "two-person best ball" on Antelope Hills South Course. ALL PROCEEDS from the Tournament remaining "Local" in the quad-cities area.
