St. Luke's Weekly Epistle

Week of November 12 , 2017

A Prayer for Veterans
O Judge of the nations, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of our country who in the day of decision ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy. Grant that we may not rest until all the people of this land share the benefits of true freedom and gladly accept its disciplines. This we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Book of Common Prayer, p. 839

The veterans' celebration will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017, after the 10 AM service, in the Parish Hall. We hope you will join us as we honor and thank those who have served (or are serving) in our armed forces. You are all warmly invited!

We'd like to include church ministries such as Don't Spend Christmas Alone Dinner, Cursillo, Daughters of the King, Aloha G.M.C. of St. Luke's (Men's Group), EfM, and others not mentioned here!
Will the heads of those groups please submit a brief report of the commission's or ministry's 2017 activities/work to no later than November 30, 2017?
Thank you for helping us give a clear picture of all that is happening at St. Luke's!!
Also, please save the date for the Annual Parish Meeting! It will take place Sunday, January 21, 2018.
Be an Angel - Sponsor a Child for Christmas
The Christmas   Angel  Tree is an annual event presented in partnership with St. Luke's Outreach Commission and one of the Prescott Unified School District's social workers. The goal is to help make Christmas a little brighter for children in our area who are in the greatest need and might not otherwise have much of a Christmas. For those who may like to help all the siblings in a family, that will be a possibility this year!

We have received 35 children in need: 22 boys and 13 girls. There are 6 sibling groups that make up 15 of the total children.

The Angel Tree will be in the Gathering Hall for all three services the Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving, November 25 and 26, and December 2 and 3.

It's easy and fun. Choose your Christmas Angel and there will be instructions for you. Please join us and make Christmas a little brighter for a child in our town.

Journey to Generosity --
Reflection for November 12
Imagining the Promised Land

by The Rev. Sarah K. Fisher
The Israelites knew what it meant to journey from scarcity to abundance. They did it time and time again. They fled by night, trusting God would guide them and provide for them. Who could have imagined that their journey to liberation would include the sea itself parting and their ability to walk through as though it were dry land? As they traveled through the wilderness, God joined them, feeding them manna, enough for the day, providing them fire by night, and cloud by day. It was not an easy journey, and at times, the Israelites stumbled and complained along the way. Still, God was with them, always, as they moved from a place of bondage to a place of freedom and abundant life.
