Sunday School News
Ms Mary (Queen), Ms Diane (Reddy) and Sophie Buisson wish to welcome all St Luke's families to meet with us this Sunday, April 2, following the 10am service who are interested in learning more about our continuing plans for your children and grandchildren for children from grades PK through 6th grade; to learn more about what we are doing in the classroom and to share with us any questions, suggestions, concerns to help us better meet the needs of our children here at St Luke's.
To keep you better informed on what we are doing in the classroom we have decided to include a Sunday School page each week in the St. Luke's Weekly Epistle.
Currently, we are in the season of Lent and, as you already know, Lent is the season when we prepare for Easter. At this time the Godly Play lessons help our children to prepare for the mystery of Easter by hearing the stories of Christ's journey toward the cross and resurrection over the course of the 6 weeks of Lent. You can help us a great deal in this endeavor by bringing your children to class on time at 9:45 a.m. Additionally, you benefit by arriving with time to spare to meet and great fellow parishioners in the Gathering Hall before the service begins.
Parents and grandparents are always welcome to participate in the classroom to gain a better understanding of what happens in the Godly Play classroom.  Please let your child's teacher know if you would like to participate.
This Saturday, Mary and Diane will journey down to St. Barnabas in the valley for another practice session to work on improving our skills at presenting the Godly Play lessons to children.
Finally, we are in desperate need of a caregiver for our nursery to provide care for our younger children ages infant to 3 years. If we could find a few dedicated individuals who would be willing to volunteer their time once or twice a month it would be greatly appreciated. It is of great importance for us at St Luke's to provide this service to families with young children attending St Luke's and for them to know that there will be someone present in the nursery to care for their little ones in a safe and secure environment. Please prayerfully consider this ministry. You will be truly blessed beyond your imagination volunteering your time to care for the youngest in our midst.

Great Visit with Phenious Chuma last Sunday!
We were pleased to have a second visit from Phenious Chuma last Sunday. Phenious, who prefers the shortened name of Pheni, comes to us from Malawi in southwestern Africa by way of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Az., where he is a graduate student working on his masters degree. Pheni represents an organization called "Love in Action, Malawi" and is associated with a larger United States charitable organization, "Mighty Hands, Inc." which is the United States charitable organization where donations from the US can be sent on to Malawi. Pheni spoke Sunday about Malawi and the struggle for the simple basics of life there. One of fifteen children he is the only member of his family to hold a university degree and following the completion of his graduate work in August he expects to return to Malawi to continue his work with the education and feeding of the many poor children in Malawi and with the furthering of the irrigation and gardens and building projects with which his organization is concerned. Pheni spoke of the massive poverty in his country and the daunting challenges all of the people face and especially the difficulties of growing up in poverty. Father Pierre-Henry suggested that if anyone would like to offer financial help to Pheni and his organization they could make out their check to St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the memo to: Love in Action/Malawi.

Good Friday Offering
As in years past, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry invites all Episcopalians to join in supporting our brothers and sisters throughout the Providence of Jerusalem and the Middle East through the Good Friday Offering. "The Good Friday Offering is our opportunity to add some of the substance of our lives to the substance of our prayers," Presiding Bishop and Primate Michael Curry wrote to the clergy of the Episcopal Church. "The Jesus Movement is about the journey we share with a world desperate to see examples of the love of God lived out in each one of us to empower compassion and mercy for all people in all places."

Easter Celebrations
We will be celebrating Easter with light refreshments following the 8 a.m. service and a brunch after the 10 a.m. service. All are welcome! Please sign up to bring a pot luck to share for the brunch. If you can't make something, please sign up that you are coming so we know how to plan! Thank you.
Support St. Luke's Youth Group
We would like the youth group at St. Luke's to take over the responsibility for planting blooming flowers/bulbs - and then the ongoing maintenance -  of the raised flower beds along the walkway between the parking lot and the church. This is important to our appearance as it is the first thing you see as you enter our facility! We plan for them to plant the new plants on  Saturday, April 8. Please support them by bringing blooming plants, such as creeping/cascading dwarf roses, bulbs, pansies, or other perennials, or monetary donations designated to buy the same, to the church on  April 5-7.
Also, donations for Easter flowers this year will be used to buy live potted plants and these will also be planted by the youth group in the beds around the church following the Easter services!
Registration closing soon!
Family Camp-July 7-10, 2017
 - Unplug and Reconnect
Family Camp is an opportunity to use your family vacation time to unplug from the busyness of daily life and reconnect with your children and with the God who made you a family. It is challenging in this over-programmed, screen-filled culture to take the time out to be present to the people in our families, to really listen so that unexpected conversations about God have space to happen. Chapel Rock is a place where screens are put away and there is space and time to listen to God and to each other. We will experience prayer, music, free time exploring the beauty of Prescott, and old-fashioned camp fun, like arts and crafts, a campfire, the ropes course, and games. Invest in your family, and come join us!
For more information or to register, visit Chapel Rock's website:  or contact Jana Sundin, Canon for Children's Ministries, at 602-254-0976 or
