Pray for those impacted by Hurricane Matthew
[ERD]  Hurricane Matthew struck Haiti and several other Caribbean nations as a Category 4 storm on October 4, affecting millions of people and prompting large-scale evacuations. The hurricane weakened slightly to a Category 3 storm after it moved slowly through the Bahamas and began tracking north along Florida's Atlantic coast. Matthew is forecast to impact Georgia and the Carolinas over the following days, threatening heavy rains, severe winds, storm surge flooding and coastal erosion. Continue reading.

Wolter, will continue this Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of St. Luke's Church to prepare those persons who have not yet been sacramentally confirmed (coming from a Protestant tradition) or received (coming from a Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox tradition) by a bishop in the Episcopal Church, or those who simply want to refresh their understanding of the practice of the Christian Faith in our tradition.  YOU are invited to join us for these presentations and discussions! We hope you will be a participant!
The Truth about Cancer series returns on Monday, October 10

Dayana Leclair, Doctor of Homeopathic Medicine, will begin on Monday, October 10, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., in the Conference Room of St. Luke's Church. This series is also very relevant for those with chronic diseases such as diabetes, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, thyroid issues, and COPD to name a few. More information, as well as a sign-up sheet, can be found on the red-skirted tables in the Gathering Hall.
Healing Service
A public service of Healing at St Luke's is held each Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel. The service includes the Litany of Healing and the celebration of Holy Communion. Anointing and the Laying on of Hands are offered in the context of the service. All are welcome!

Anointing provides a vivid, sacramental expression of God's love in time of sickness and misfortune. It is helpful at the onset of an illness [and throughout], as well as in a time of crisis. While anointing is usually administered for physical illness, we also anoint for the healing of mind, body and soul. The New Testament makes it clear that anointing, accompanied by prayer, was used for healing.  "Are any of you in trouble? Are any of you sick? Then call for the elders of the church, and have them pray over those who are sick and anoint them with oil in the name of Christ. And this prayer offered in faith will make them well, and Christ will raise them up." James 5: 13-152.

From ancient times the laying on of hands has been a symbol for the conveying of God's power. Among the gifts received from God by this means is that of healing. In Scripture we see this practice commonly used and the healing which ensued.  "He called the Twelve together and gave them power and authority to cure diseases, and sent them out to heal." Luke: 9:1-33.

Outreach Notes
Outreach Fair Follow-up: Saint Luke's Outreach Commission thanks everyone who participated or attended our "Outreach Fair" on October 1-2 . If you attended this event you know that we have an active commission providing help to many.

Kenya Project: Last fall the Outreach Commission decided to begin a fundraising project for the Amagoro Junior Academy in Katakawa Kenya. The funds were to be used for the building of four classrooms. The original plan was to raise $3,500 a year for four years. Through the amazing generosity of the parishioners of St. Luke's, we raised approximately $12,000 in less than one year. We are asking you to help us raise $2,000 to complete our commitment in one year. Photos of the progress of construction on the classrooms are in the Gathering Hall along with a box containing envelopes in which donations can be placed. You may turn your donations in directly to the office or place them in the offering plate. Please write Kenya Project on the memo line of your check.

Be a Santa to a Senior: For the last 12 years, Home Instead Senior Care has partnered with
local non-profits to identify lonely, isolated and seniors in need to share a little holiday cheer.  We anticipate providing gifts to approximately 300 seniors in our community. Many seniors have difficulty opening packages.
Please purchase a gift bag(s) and/or holiday tissue paper.
Deposit bags and paper in the designated box in the Gathering Hall. For more info on Be a Santa to a Senior, contact Home Instead Senior Care at 928-708-9960.

Calling all Veterans / Families of Veterans
Veterans' Day, November 11, is fast approaching. Continuing the long tradition at St. Luke's of recognizing the many in our congregation who have served, last year we had a special coffee hour after the 10 a.m. service to honor them with a cake and some last-minute decorations. This year we would like to expand our observation by having a special coffee hour to honor our veterans by putting together a list recognizing current veterans and a list of remembrance for those no longer with us. Please email, post, or drop off at the Church Office or in the Gathering Hall the following information: your name, branch of service, dates of service, and a picture, preferably in uniform. For the spouses or children of veterans, please do the same for your loved ones. We need this information as soon as possible so we can compile our honor display. If you have original photographs and would like them copied for our display, we will be able to do so, just let us know. Also please let us know if you would like to help make this a very special celebration. Contact Ed and Jan Hume by email at edhume40@gmail.com

Don't Spend Christmas Alone - St. Luke's Gift to the Community - December 25,
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Parish Members: You don't have to wait until December to be of help. If you so wish, you may do that now. I am putting a word out to you for help in the area of transportation. In recent previous years, transportation to the Christmas dinner was made available to bring guests from Prescott's old Albertson's parking lot. I am happy to say that this year we are making the dinner, which is free to all, available in Prescott Valley and Chino Valley. This is our gift to needy people, lonely and those who would otherwise not celebrate the most special holiday of the year; indeed, St. Luke's Gift to the Quad-City community.

Volunteer transportation vans are needed for these two towns. Can you help? Once again, thank you in advance for your help!
