Don't Spend Christmas Alone 2016 - St. Luke's Gift to the Community
Dear Parish Members:
I would like to share with you about my choice to chair the Don't Spend Christmas Alone dinner.

I had a vision that would challenge my abilities; a disposition to go beyond comfort, trust in those that offered to help, willingness to learn along the way and confidence that "God was already there."

The ground work throughout early months-building community relations was pleasurable. The last two weeks preceding the event were tough; the week prior to the event was quite edgy, and the day before, December 24th, seemed like an unquestionable prediction of an absolute chaos. Sunday, December 25th came and in despite all that was not even close to perfection, an amazing event took place. Deliveries to the home bound went out as scheduled, 314 meals to be exact. All got better as guests started to arrive and the dinning doors opened right on time. An inspiring opening prayer sat the tone of a fabulous start. Diligent helpers proceeded to serve and volunteers moved about like experts at their tasks. Adults, young adults and youth, guests and volunteers were driven in perfect coordination; a big family gathered in Jesus. Time seemed to stop as joy, service and love presented by the most significant and special holiday of the year was taking place. At this moment, I knew without doubt that this was exactly why I had volunteered to Chair; 425 guests and a couple of hundred volunteers-this was my gift.

Given the 36 years of outgoing commitment of St. Luke's members to host this event, I trust that there is not only one but several people in our congregation that have heard a call to Chair this remarkable outreach event. Pray, trust the call; a means for moving forward a precious gift that we have discerned as a congregation.

God will use what you have; you may face difficult decisions, but there too, you are in God's good hands.  Do your part and be confident that God will provide. Remember that Jesus did not call us to be successful-he called us to be faithful. You will look back and know that the joy that you brought to others comes back to you multiplied in many beautiful ways.
