St. Luke's Weekly Epistle
Week of July 22 , 2018
From the Rector
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

As I'm about to leave for my vacations, I wanted to thank you all for the wonderful work you are doing in the various ministries of St Luke's. We strive to serve our community as a sign of our commitment to Christ, because we know that to serve and love our neighbor is to serve and love our Lord.

I'm very excited about this new Food Pantry Ministry in partnership with Coalition for Compassion and Justice (CCJ) that will allow us to serve struggling families with young kids in Chino Valley. You will learn more about it in this E-Pistle and in the following weeks, so stay tuned!

As I'm writing these words, I know that many of you are working at the Church's inventory under the leadership and guidance of our Junior Warden, Katie Staudt. That's great. Thank you!

During my absence, please do not hesitate to contact my Assistant, The Rev Denise Muller. Her email is For Pastoral emergencies you can contact her or Deacon Chris Christy. For any administrative questions, please contact Beth Parknowitz at the office. Our Wardens Dwight Willman and Katie Staudt are available to help you in any way.

I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers,

Sincerely, in Christ's love.

Saint Luke's Weekend Food Pantr y held its first meeting, I would like to personally thank everyone who attended. The Food Pantry will be housed in the Conference Room closet. Besides providing food for the Chino Valley Head Start program, the Pantry will also  be available for emergency situations. YOU can be part of this exciting new Outreach Program by making a monetary pledge (cash or check to St. Luke's with Food Pantry in memo line), donating grocery bags or food items, volunteering to pick up food items from CCJ, stocking shelves, or assisting in handing out food on Friday mornings when we are open to the public. Our hope is to open the Pantry to the public on Friday August 24th from 9 am to 12 pm. For further information, please contact the Food Pantry at
Thank You All. We are very excited about this New Ministry at Saint Luke's and welcome any and all participation.

Highlights from the 79th General Convention of
The Episcopal Church

(July 5th - 13th, 2018 -- Austin, Texas)

TEConversation - EVANGELISM
Offered in Joint Session, with both the House of Deputies and the House of Bishops in attendance, the second TEConversation focused EVANGELISM.

Speakers highlighted some of the leading edges of the Episcopal Church's push for evangelism."We do love Jesus.  We just don't always, know how to express it and how to own it and how to share it."  Episcopalians' reluctance to talk about evangelism may be because they envision handing out pamphlets on the street.  True evangelism is rooted in a curiosity about God and a desire o share the love of Christ.  "We provoke people's curiosity about God and then we accompany people as their curiosity compels them to seek out God."  It takes practice to talk to others about Jesus in a relaxed and confident way, but that is what Christians are called to do.  "We are the good news"as we deliver the good news..

Help Needed!

One of our families from the 8 o'clock service is looking to rent an RV that can house a family of three, plus two pups. They have sold their Prescott home and will be building a new one in Prescott Valley. However, the housing they lined up has fallen through and they must be out of their current home on July 31st. They are hoping to find an RV that can be located first at a RV park, and then moved to the land while building. If you are able to help, please contact Lauren at (734) 771-2397 or Thank you!
Thank You from the Native American Ministry
Thank you  for your generous c ontributions supporting the BackPack Project for Native American students.  St Luke's wrote a check  to the Smoki Museum  for $815 on behalf of the Native American Ministry Committee.  100% of your contributions went to filling backpacks with supplies.   I am happy to have been able to deliver this check from St. Luke's and your concern for these children  - Sherri Frances
