St. Luke's Weekly Epistle
A Prayer for Pentecost
Come, O Holy Spirit.
Come as Holy Fire and burn in us,
come as Holy Wind and cleanse us within,
come as Holy Light and lead us in the darkness,
come as Holy Truth and dispel our ignorance.
come as Holy Power and enable our weakness,
come as Holy Life and dwell in us.
Convict us, convert us, consecrate us,
until we are set free from the service of ourselves,
to be your servants to the world.  Amen

June 8-9: PENTECOST & UTO Ingathering
Give Thanks for God's Simple Gifts, Give the Gift of Thankfulness
Most gracious God, who created all peoples in your image, we thank you with gratitude for the freedom to make choices. Teach us to recognize and praise the worth of others. Encourage us to give the Gift of Thankfulness for our blessings in a way that enriches the lives of others and draws us closer in harmony to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer Provided by Nancy Dutro,  from Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, Williamsburg, Virginia
Thankfulness
Thankfulness may very well be the wellspring from which the other gifts that we've been reflecting on over the past three weeks-kindness, compassion, caring, listening, and unconditional love- bubble up as fruits of a grateful heart.  Thankfulness projects us outward, keeping us focused on giving rather than receiving, so that the lives of others may be blessed and enriched.
At its most basic level, thankfulness is our response to the recognition that all that we have and all that we are is a gift, flowing out of God's immeasurable love for us.  After all, we didn't will ourselves into existence. Our traits and our talents are not of our own making. We don't determine our length of days. Even the simple act of breathing is beyond our control!   All of life-yes, all of life-and everything that sustains it, is given as a continuous gift from our gracious God.  While common human courtesy expects a "thank you" in response to a gift, God wants more than our words; God wants our hearts.  Psalm 116:12 asks, "What can I offer the Lord for all the Lord's goodness to me?" The answer is found in many places in Scripture, but this verse seems to say it best:  "I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart" (Psalm 9:1).   If our hearts are filled with thankfulness, then our lives can't help but be filled with love-a generous love that flows freely into the lives of others.

Gathering Hall Display Windows
I would like to coordinate the display windows to focus on the following:  Youth and Children (Sophie), Parish Life, Faith Formation, and Parish Commissions/National Church.  In order to accomplish this and minimize confusion I need your help.  Signup sheets are available in the office for everyone to use in scheduling displays. I would suggest a display two to three weeks before an event.  In addition it would be nice if you could take photos of an event and add them, as soon as possible after the event; leaving them on display for two additional weeks to celebrate our life together.  You can also reserve a window by contacting me at maryjqueen@icloud .com, or 310 530-4001.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.  Mary Queen
