St. Luke's Weekly Epistle

Week of November 26 , 2017

Prayer for Thanksgiving
Almighty and gracious Father, we give you thanks for the fruits of the earth in their season and for the labors of those who harvest them. Make us, we pray, faithful stewards of your great bounty, for the provision of our necessities and the relief of all who are in need, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Book of Common Prayer, p. 246

We wish you a happy Thanksgiving! Our prayers are with you.

Annual Reports Due November 30
We are looking for annual reports in a few short weeks for the year 2017 from commissions, church ministries, and our outside groups to include in the report we'll distribute prior to this year's Annual Parish Meeting. We'd like the St. Luke's annual report to the parish to be more detailed than in years past! We'd like to include church ministries such as Don't Spend Christmas Alone Dinner, Cursillo, Daughters of the King, Aloha G.M.C. of St. Luke's (Men's Group), EfM, and others not mentioned here!

Will the heads of those groups please submit a brief report of the commission's or ministry's 2017 activities/work to  info@slecp.org no later than November 30, 2017?

Thank you for helping us give a clear picture of all that is happening at St. Luke's!!
Also, please save the date for the Annual Parish Meeting! It will take place Sunday, January 21, 2018.
Show Time Community Theatre performs Dec 1 & 2 at St. Luke's
The Christmas Season is fast approaching; start it off with a fun-filled modern rendition of Charles Dickens'  A Christmas CarolCome see  A 21st Century Christmas Carol,  presented by Show Time Community Theatre, on  Friday, December 1, at 7 p.m.,  and  Saturday, December 2, at 4 p.m. & 7 p.m.

Eleanor Scrooge, the bitter, hard-hearted owner of a successful gift shop, must learn to be a nicer person and re-appreciate the joys of Christmas if she wants to escape the terrible end fate of her old business partner, Mr. Marley. Follow Eleanor as she encounters a germophobic Spirit of the Past, the Christmas-fanatic Spirit of the Present, and the retirement-ready Spirit of the Future, who all work to change Eleanor's ways.

Show Time Community Theatre, a youth theatre group for kids, ages 7 - 17 years old, has met twice weekly at St. Luke's this fall to prepare for December's shows. We hope you can come out and support them!

Tickets for  A 21st Century Christmas Carol  are sold at the door and are $10 for adults, $5 for students 20 and under, and $25 for a family 4-pack. Come join us and get into the spirit of the holidays!

Outreach Commission News
Olive Anderson, form the Chino Valley Hungry Kids Program, was informative about the school-age children in the schools in the Quad City Area. Did you know that 61% of the students in the area qualify to receive Free or Reduced lunch? In Chino Valley 260 students receive weekend meals to take home as they have very little or nothing to eat on the weekends. These students could be your child's classmate or your grandchild's classmate or good friend at school. Prescott Valley and Prescott have the same situation. It has been noticed in the schools. Students receiving these meals are having better attendance, getting to school on time, and are more alert.

Do you find this a calling? Chino Valley Hungry Kids Program could use your help packing the food bags. It is a 1-1½ hour commitment. The packing takes place at Heritage Middle School, 1076 N. Rd 1 W., Chino Valley, AZ 86323 on Thursdays at 9:00 am.

The next meeting for the Outreach Commission is Monday December 11 at 4:00 pm in the  Conference Room. The guest speaker will be Carmen Fredrick from Prescott Area Shelter Services giving a short presentation of their program which St. Luke's supports. Please come and join us to hear what's going on in the community.

We welcome everyone! Please join us! Bring a friend!
