This weekend, Just Coffee will be on sale after all services. Remember to bring cash or checkbook.
We are sponsoring another border experience on October 8/9. In March Keehna and Mary Ellen participated in a vigil at the port of entry, crossed the border to Agua Prieta for dinner and a night's stay in a lovely motel. The next day they visited JustCoffee partners, prayed at the wall on the Mexico side, met asylum-seekers, and toured the roasting facilities.
If you are interested in participating, please fill out the interest form in the parish hall located at the JustCoffee table or contact Mary Ellen at
maryellen.rivero@gmail.com

Undie Sunday for Homeless Veterans
For the next three Sundays a black bin with a yellow lid will be in the Gathering Hall to collect donations of new packs of socks, underwear, undershirts, long johns (all sizes for both men and women) to give homeless vets a hand up.
Every year,
US VETS
has a
Stand Down event
at which they help homeless vets with food, clothing, hygiene items, and legal assistance. Contributing needed undergarments is a way we can help our veterans. The
Outreach Commission thanks you for your support and generous contributions!

Nurses Notes
Some Thoughts About Depression
This month I am writing about depression. In my previous practice as a Nurse Practitioner at the VA, I found many of my patients had symptoms of depression, but hesitated to mention it for fear of being labeled "crazy". I tried to help themunderstand that feeling down, blue, sad all the time wasn't necessary becausevery likely we could work together to improve their quality of life. Of course, this translates as improved quality of life for their family as well! I am going to describe depression with possible symptoms. I will try to suggest some ways that as lay people we can recognize depression in those friends or family that might be affected, and provide some helpful interventions for them.
