Are You Called to be a Stephen Minister?
Stephen Ministers are lay persons who provide care to individuals experiencing a crisis or going through a difficult time in life.  They are NOT counselors or therapists. They do not run errands or provide transportation, clean house, cook meals or pay bills. Their role is that of a companion on a difficult journey.

Each Stephen Minister typically has one care receiver at a time (man to man, woman to woman) and meets with that person on a regular basis, usually weekly, to listen, care, empathize, pray and provide emotional and spiritual support.  The caring relationship is completely confidential, and lasts for as long as the care receiver's need persists.

Training to be a Stephen Minister requires a commitment of 50 hours, typically once a week for 2 and a half hours with required reading before each class. Classes will begin mid-September and finish in February with time off for the holidays.

Currently St. Luke's has seven Stephen Ministers who are providing care to members of our community.  Here is what one care receiver has to say about her Stephen Ministry experience... "I can't tell you how grateful I am for my Stephen Minister.  My only regret is that I didn't agree to it when it was first introduced to me.  I have been able to talk freely without fear of judgment. I look forward to spending time with my Stephen Minister every week."

PRESCOTT VALLEY 40th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

This is a great opportunity to let Prescott Valley know what St. Luke's is all about and what we have to offer! All ministries are welcomed and encouraged to participate. All ministries/ commissions are responsible for providing their own literature.

So far we have the Outreach Commission, Food Pantry, Bradshaw Mountain High School Ministry, Prescott Area Shelter Services, Youth & Children's Ministry, Stephens' Ministry, Native American Ministry, Spanish Ministry, and Membership Commission.

There is a signup sheet in the gathering hall for Volunteers to sign up for which day and what 2.5 hour interval they will be there to facilitate the booth.

Weekend Food Pantry Meeting on August 16 @ 4 p.m.

There will be a meeting for The Saint Luke's Weekend Food Pantry Thursday August 16th at 4PM. We will be finalizing our details for our Grand Opening on the 24th.  Anyone interested in assisting with this new Ministry are welcome. For more information contactt he Food Pantry at pantry@slecp.org
Cabaret: Sunday, September 9, 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Once again, The Choir of Saint Luke's is presenting a dazzling evening of dinner, wine and  entertainment.

Tickets go on sale in the church Gathering Hall beginning Saturday, Aug. 18th - 5:30 pm service and will continue at every service until sold out. Seating is limited, so get your tickets early. Tickets are $30.00 and all proceeds go to the church general fund. 

Each numbered ticket will have a table number which will guarantee you a seat. Doors will open at 4:45 p.m. Due to restrictions of our liquor license, this is a NO BYOB event. BUT, red and white wine will be served with your meal. We need volunteers to serve and clean up. If this appeals to you, please email Sue Boyce, suebysop@gmail.com.
HAPPY 20TH BIRTHDAY!
Granite Creek Hunger Ministry will turn 20 this summer. In the words of its founder, Moses Glidden, "The Saturday Feed started July 1998 when my wife and I opened the Bible and Jesus said, 'When I was hungry, you fed Me.' We called friends to say, 'The Lord is hungry; will you help us feed Him?' We put up posters, and on Saturday shared potato salad and hot dogs with twelve hungry guests." Jim and Kathy Pessin joined Moses for that first meal and all three have continued to guide and support the program since its inception.  Other early volunteers were Terry Murphy, Eddie Mefford, John Crandall, and Quentin David. T hank you to the entire St. Luke's family for your ongoing support.

Altar flowers are given in thanksgiving for our many blessings or a special event, in memory of a loved one, or to the glory of God. They are an offering that enrich our worship space. You may sign-up on the Altar Flowers poster on the bulletin board in the Gathering Hall.  The suggested donation is $55.00. This is a change due to increased cost. (however, any donation is accepted). If you would like to have a person or event named here, please notify the office.
