June 1-2:
Give Thanks for God's Simple Gifts, Give the Gift of Unconditional Love
Gracious God, for love you created all things and gave us life and strength that we might love you and know your love for us; as Jesus commanded us to love you with all our heart, soul, and mind and to love our neighbor, let our hearts rejoice in your love and let that overflow our lives to those you call us to love. Amen.
Prayer Provided by Joan Whitla,  from Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, Williamsburg, Virginia
Unconditional Love

What is unconditional love? It is absolute acceptance and openness to yourself and others; it is the most powerful force in the universe.
Agape is used to describe the pure love that is unconditionally expressed as an act of the will. Agape  is the deepest and most essential kind of love. God is our role model for this type of love. He loved us so much that He gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, as a provision for our sin that we might know His love and forgiveness.
Throughout our lives there will be times that loving unconditionally challenges us in painful ways. I believe this is when we need to turn to God in prayer and reflect on the lessons that God left for us:
"Love never gives up. Love cares for others more than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have. Love doesn't strut, doesn't have a swelled head, doesn't force itself on others, it isn't always 'me first,' doesn't fly off the handle, doesn't keep score of the sins of others, doesn't revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps going to the end. Love never dies" (1 Corinthians 13, The Message).
Amen,
The Rev. Chris Christy

UTO Box Ingathering - Pentecost - June 9
This weekend we will be giving out UTO envelopes that you can use to convert the coins/bills in your UTO boxes into bills or a check for the ingathering on Pentecost, June 9. That way you can keep your box to use throughout the year as a visual reminder to give thanks for simple gifts and be intentional about giving gifts daily.

If you would like to bring in your box, we have empty boxes you can pick up to use during the coming year as you continue the spiritual practice of daily giving thanks and giving gifts.

If you put your pledge number on your box or envelope the amount will be posted on your statement, which is handy for tax purposes.

Notes from St. Luke's Deacon in Formation

Deacon formation classes were held on May 18th at the Cathedral.  It was our last class until August, as June will be our summer break, and, in July, we'll be having a retreat at Chapel Rock.  As we gathered for Morning Prayer, there was a palpable sense of joy among the 2019 ordinands, whose final class of the Deacon Formation Academy was that day.  Ordination for them was just two weeks away, and it would be taking place within the hallowed walls that were surrounding us. They were jubilant! And because the day also marked the halfway point in the formation of the Class of 2020, everyone present was feeling a whole range of emotions as we prayed together and reflected on our common, awesome call to the diaconate.
