St. Luke's Weekly Epistle

Week of December 3 , 2017

Advent is at our doors!
But in the malls, on the radios, and in so many places, it seems that this is already Christmas! We are going to be part of a crazy race in order to be ready for Christmas. Like many others we are going to spend money on gifts, meals, treats, to celebrate the spirit of the season. Apparently more than 600 billion of dollars are going to be spent during this season in our country. And at the end of the race, when Christmas will be over, we will feel exhausted, and somehow unsatisfied...

There is a movement called "Advent Conspiracy" whose idea is to celebrate Advent differently. At the heart of the Advent Conspiracy there are 4 principles: worship fully, spend less, give more, love all. This conspiracy is an invitation to reclaim the season of Advent: a time of joyful preparation; a time to be focused on Christ; a time to slow down the pace of our busy lives and to give space to God; a time to be present to those who love.
The secret of Advent? It's not about us, it's about Christ. So, let us prepare ourselves to receive Christ again in our lives. Let us slow down the pace to allow the Spirit of God to work in our hearts.  Let us try to recognize Christ's presence in our world and in our lives.
I wish you a blessed and holy Advent season!
God's blessings on you and yours.
