Someone asked me very recently how I feel being at St Luke's now. I answered that I was really happy to be the rector of such a loving and vibrant Christian community. I'm so thankful that the Lord called me to this place at that time. I can feel the Spirit's presence in our worship, and also in the various activities and ministries that are happening on a daily basis. If I had only one word to summarize what I am witnessing at St Luke's it would be "generosity." Generosity in welcoming visitors and new members, generosity in working for the less fortunate, and such a huge generosity of time, talents, money without which this place would not be what it is now, and would not be able to proclaim the Good News of Jesus.
Speaking of generosity I'm blown away by the generosity of so many of you who have given so many items for the Yard Sale sponsored by our Youth! We have so many items that we could run a yard sale several weeks in a row! Let see what is going to happen Saturday...
Another way to be generous for the less fortunate is through the United Thank Offering Sunday. This weekend we are going to collect our offerings of cash or check at every service. If you write a check, just add UTO in the memo line. This is a worthy cause, every penny, every dollar, will help. No offering is too small for this cause!
I am giving thanks to the Lord for all the energy, love, life and generosity that I can see and experience at St Luke's. I'm giving thanks for what the Lord is doing in so many lives. But today I also want to give thanks to the Lord for having chosen me to serve Him as a priest on April 29, 1990. I had no clue of what would happen to me at that time. I would never have dreamed to be in a place like St Luke's... I give thanks for what the Lord has done in my life, how he has guided and lead me, how he is using me to share the Good News of his unconditional love for all. I give thanks for being a privileged witness of God's grace here at St Luke's.
I keep all of you in my heart and prayers, especially those who are suffering in one way or another, and those who are homebound. May God bless and keep you.
In Christ's love,
