Celebrating Pentecost

To commemorate this diversity present in Jerusalem and the power of the Holy Spirit to reach all peoples we will be celebrating Pentecost this year (May 20) with an International Potluck after the 10:00 a.m. service.
OPTION 1: treasured family or other recipe from your family's heritage.
OPTION 2:  Trader Joe's (in the frozen food section) has a selection of international foods for those who don't want to "cook from scratch".
.
Cards will be available to list the name of the food and the country of origin.  Enjoying the diversity of food from other cultures will highlight the spread of the Gospel and be great fun as well!
REMEMBER TO WEAR RED!

PEACE BE WITH YOU

LA PAIX SOIT AVEC TOI - LA PAZ SEA CONTIGO
LA PACE SIA CON TE - POKOJ Z TUBA

Katherine Schori, past Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, would sometimes use SHALOM in "passing the peace".  Through the gift of the Holy Spirit the many people gathered in Jerusalem, speaking diverse languages, were able to receive and understand the Good News as delivered by the Apostles.

Please join in "passing the peace" in an different language on Pentecost, remembering that the message of God's love is for all peoples. You can google "how do you say peace be with you in (language of  your choice)" to see and hear the phrase in your chosen language.  There is a drop-down menu so you can explore a wide variety of languages.   Questions-contact Mary Queen at  maryjqueen@icloud.com.

The language of poetry often speaks louder than the words  themselves.  George Herbert, a sixteenth-century priest and poet, wrote the poem "The Call" to capture his own experience of intimate relation with God.  The text has been set to music and sung for centuries.

If you have a poem that is a part of your spiritual journey please share it with others in our parish family by submitting it to the Epistle at epistle@slecp.org.

Don't Spend Christmas Alone!

Summer is just heating up, and it may seem early to think about Christmas, but we need your help! Last year we were blessed to be part of a four-person team that co-chaired Don't Spend Christmas Alone.  This long-standing community event is a rewarding way to spend Christmas day and the team approach made it possible for us to share not only in the responsibilities, but the joy of the day.  This Christmas, two of us are returning, and since it worked so well last year, we would like two additional volunteers to assume co-chair positions with us. If you think you might enjoy being part of the Christmas Day festivities, we will be happy to share more information about the available co-chair positions and how you can be involved.   Contact Muriel or George to let us know of your interest. Don't wait! We start our planning soon.

WOMEN OF FAITH
Books about "women of faith" take many forms. On display in the Gathering Hall by the Library you will find books with stories of women in the Bible, devotions from spiritual leaders, and inspiration from current authors like Joan Chittister. Find a book that speaks to you. Take it home and return it to the basket in the library when done.
