St. Luke's Weekly Epistle
Week of August 5 , 2018
Bring Your Backpack, Briefcase, or Project Bag
this Weekend - all 3 services!
God of Wisdom, we give you thanks for schools and classrooms and for those who fill them each day.  We thank you for this new beginning, new books and new ideas.  We thank you for sharpened pencils, pointy crayons, and crisp blank pages waiting to be filled.  We thank you for the gift of making mistakes and trying again.  Help us to remember that asking the right questions is as important as giving the right answers. We ask you to bless all who learn and teach with curiosity, understanding, and respect.  May their backpacks, lunchboxes, and briefcases be a sign to them that they have everything they need to learn and grow this year.  May they be guided by your love.  All this we ask in the name of Jesus, who as a child in the temple showed his longing to learn about you, and as an adult taught by story and example your great love for us.  Amen.
Granite Creek Hunger Ministry will turn 20 this summer. In the words of its founder, Moses Glidden, "The Saturday Feed started July 1998 when my wife and I opened the Bible and Jesus said, 'When I was hungry, you fed Me.' We called friends to say, 'The Lord is hungry; will you help us feed Him?' We put up posters, and on Saturday shared potato salad and hot dogs with twelve hungry guests." Jim and Kathy Pessin joined Moses for that first meal and all three have continued to guide and support the program since its inception.  Other early volunteers were Terry Murphy, Eddie Mefford, John Crandall, and Quentin David. t thank you to the entire St. Luke's family for your ongoing support.
