Prayer for Memorial Day
ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, in whose hands are the living and the dead; We give you thanks for all those your servants who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. Grant to them your mercy and the light of your presence, that the good work which you have begun in them may be perfected; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord. Amen.

A Taste of Babylon!
VBS offers our children the chance to become part of biblical history as they visit Babylon during the time of Daniel's captivity. They'll also have the chance to taste foods common at that time. Will you please consider helping us provide the snacks?
On both Sunday, May 27th and June 3rd, there will be a sign-up sheet on the Gathering Hall table listing specific non-perishable foods you can donate. These include: flatbread, raisins, dates, dried figs, dried apricots, dried plums and canned sausage (such as Vienna sausage). A collection box will be near the table for your contributions. If you prefer to donate money, there will also be a donation jar (by the sign-up sheet) with the proceeds used to purchase the beverages and perishable foods such as fruit and cheese.
Thanks in advance for your help in making this year's VBS experience special for the children. Questions? Contact Barb Brubaker (928-515-1969), Mary Hallford (602-796-1177) or Pat Eaton (928-777-1821).

The language of poetry often speaks louder than the words  themselves. George Herbert, a sixteenth-century priest and poet, wrote the poem "The Call" to capture his own experience of intimate relation with God.  The text has been set to music and sung for centuries.

If you have a poem that is a part of your spiritual journey please share it with others in our parish family by submitting it to the Epistle at

Don't Spend Christmas Alone!

Summer is just heating up, and it may seem early to think about Christmas, but we need your help! Last year we were blessed to be part of a four-person team that co-chaired Don't Spend Christmas Alone.  This long-standing community event is a rewarding way to spend Christmas day and the team approach made it possible for us to share not only in the responsibilities, but the joy of the day.  This Christmas, two of us are returning, and since it worked so well last year, we would like two additional volunteers to assume co-chair positions with us. If you think you might enjoy being part of the Christmas Day festivities, we will be happy to share more information about the available co-chair positions and how you can be involved.   Contact Muriel or George to let us know of your interest. Don't wait! We start our planning soon.

Books about "women of faith" take many forms. On display in the Gathering Hall by the Library you will find books with stories of women in the Bible, devotions from spiritual leaders, and inspiration from current authors like Joan Chittister. Find a book that speaks to you. Take it home and return it to the basket in the library when done.
