St. Luke's Weekly Epistle
Week of May 26, 2019
The Parish Office will be closed on Monday, May 27,
in observance of Memorial Day.
Beth Parknowitz, Parish Administrator, is currently undergoing radiation therapy and chemotherapy for a recent cancer diagnosis. Lauree Birchmeier, parishioner, has graciously stepped up to fill in for Beth as her presence at the office is unpredictable these days. Lauree will be filling in part-time as our Parish Administrator Substitute. Lauree has worshiped at St. Luke's for just over a year now since she relocated to the Quad City area from Michigan. Please welcome Lauree!

We are thankful for your patience during this time!

May 25-26:
Give Thanks for God's Simple Gifts, Give the Gift of Caring and Listening
Dear Lord, give us purity of heart, so we can recognize and empathize when someone needs our caring. Help clear our thoughts in order for us to listen intently so that we might be able to give our very best support. Make each of us an instrument to minister to those of your flock in need. As we give of ourselves in the form of time, and empathy, help us remember to also give of our treasure and goods to the furtherance of Thy work. This we pray, Amen.
Prayer Provided by Jack Lee,  from Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, Williamsburg, Virginia
Caring and Listening

Your smile is the light in your window that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside. Caring is a gift no one can buy. It's made up  of love that roots in our hearts and creates memories, not just for a while, but  also for a lifetime, as we show kindness and concern for others.

Robert K. Greenleaf wrote "Only a true natural servant automatically  responds to any problem by listening first." Listening is one of the most  important practices of servant leadership - maybe the single most important  practice. It is in the quiet moments of life we learn that presence is more  than speaking, and that words can be barriers that separate us from others and from entering the moment we are currently living. The power of our  words has a way of fading when we sit and listen.

That gift of caring is wrapped around us like a blanket, still warm.   And when you take the time to listen, that's exactly what you'll give them.

Deacon Kimball Arnold
UTO Box Ingathering - Pentecost - June 9
Use your UTO box each morning as a visual reminder to stop, thank God for God's Simple Gifts and to think about how you will give the Gift of Caring and Listening to someone you encounter in the day ahead.

When you put coins or bills into your UTO box your blessings become blessings for others.  All monies collected support God's mission in the United States and around the world by funding grants. If you don't have a box you can pick one up this weekend. Our goal is hat every man, woman, and child will have a box to help them develop the spiritual habit of giving thanks daily.

Confirmations, Receptions, and Reaffirmations

These newest members of the Episcopal Church are: David & Bonnie Cain, Gary & Margaret Cole, Carl & Denise DeKemper. Terri Doran,  Jim & Eileen Klein, Bud & Dorcas Lawn, Mary Ellen Rivero, Gerald Schafer, Mark & Kathleen Tuttle

Almighty and everliving God, let your fatherly hand ever be over these your servants; let your Holy Spirit ever be with  them; and so lead them in the knowledge and obedience of your Word, that they may serve you in this life, and dwell with you in the life to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
