Cruzando Fronteras
Thank you to everyone who has donated, organized, and transported items to the Phoenix metro drop off centers. Your generosity is making Christ known in our world. If you would like to make a donation, the following are items the ministry is currently in need of:  diapers (sizes 2,3, & 4), warm sweatshirts (ALL sizes).    Please drop off items bagged in small enough sizes that can be easily carried. Items can be brought to the parish during normal business hours. If you would like to financially contribute to this ministry, you can donate online here. Thank you!
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry addressed a capacity crowd at St. Paul's Cathedral in London recently. He explored how the Jesus Movement has the power to turn the world upside down, Jesus calls us to strive for a world where no child suffers, no one goes to bed hungry, no one is abandoned and alone. A world where love is the way when we take the Jesus Movement seriously.  The address was vintage Curry preaching and the responses to the questions after the presentation were equally illuminating. click here for link

Journey Jottings: Notes from St. Luke's Deacon in Formation
As most of you know, my six-month deacon internship at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Clarkdale began on September 1st-and it's proving to be a wonderful experience!  In spite of its small size, St. Thomas', through its ministries and worship, is a visible sign of Christ's presence in the Verde Valley communities of Clarkdale, Cottonwood, and Jerome. Besides being a part of Sunday liturgies, I also participate in several of St.  Thomas' ministries, e.g., their food pantry, their grief support group, and their weekly  Bible study. And, as a deacon in formation, I'm involved in the pastoral care of the  congregation, providing support and assistance when needed. For example, I recently provided "Ministration at the Time of Death" to a parishioner and his family at  Cottonwood's beautiful and peaceful hospice house.  click here for article
Last Saturday, the Youth Group gathered together for a one-day retreat in Sedona.
It was a beautiful day, we first enjoyed our picnic in a breath-taking setting overlooking the natural rock formations. Then we took a hike on the Moon Crescent trail.  We walked through the green trees and got very wet as we crossed the stream: a lot of fun!   Then we went to Coldstone for a refreshing ice cream social.   On our way back home we reflected on and discussed spiritual questions.  It was a great time spent together: reconnecting as a group after the summer and refreshing our souls as we continue our faith journey together..
