Special visit, from Emmaus Church Plant, this weekend!
Come & see this weekend as we welcome guest preacher, the Rev. Emilie Finn! Then, join us for coffee hour, after the 10 a.m. service, and learn what it is to be missionaries to a modern-day community, as Rev. Emilie & Deb Tickell of Emmaus Church Plant in Surprise share an interactive look at the evolving Emmaus community. Experience a unique, new expression of church still deeply rooted in the age-old Episcopal tradition. Bring your thoughts and questions as we discuss the shape of ministry in this growing community, and how Emmaus members are working to reach often overlooked demographics and preserve church traditions for generations to come. A second collection will be taken at all services in support of the ministry of Emmaus and its outreach initiatives.

Centering Prayer Group meets next on May 12 at 9 a.m.
Contemplative prayer, the "umbrella" under which Centering Prayer exists, is the opening of our whole being to God, the Ultimate Mystery. Its purpose is personal transformation: to move us toward a life that is ever more closely united to, and reflective of, God.
Centering Prayer is a method of contemplative prayer that carries us beyond words, thoughts, feelings, and internal discourse to an encounter with the Divine Presence within us. The method itself is easy to learn. There are four basic guidelines* that serve as a springboard to move us beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ. Centering Prayer is practiced twice a day for a minimum of 20 minutes during each prayer period. Its wordless nature helps us to understand that, as St. John of the Cross wrote in the 16th century, "silence is God's first language," and that, in silence, God speaks. Centering Prayer helps us to listen.
St. Luke's Centering Prayer group meets on the second and fourth Fridays of each month, from 9:00-10:15 AM, in the Meditation Room, which is located next to the library in the Parish Hall.

Special Thanks
A special note below from Bill Christy:

I would like to thank everyone who so generously participated in making prison cookies for this Kairos prison weekend. I was required to bring 75 dozen cookies. However, the good Lord blessed me with 76 dozen cookies through the effort and support of the St. Luke parishioners. The Bible tells us that no matter what part one plays in producing and harvesting the crops, everyone involved is accredited for the work. I hope to report back to the church the results of the weekend so everyone can share in knowing the blessed works in which they have been an important part! Thank you again and God Bless!
Pastoral Care: call for volunteers
Your Pastoral Care Team is currently ministering to more than 30 members of our congregation who are in need of St. Luke's ongoing support and pastoral care. Members of the Pastoral Care Team are Lucy Kemper (Chair), Chris Christy (Clergy Liaison for Pastoral Care), Keehna Sture (Parish Nurse), Jeanne Miller (TeleCare Ministry Chair), Sharon Neece, and Angeles Zarate (Vestry Liaison).

Telecare Ministry
Telecare is a ministry of love! Telecare is a lay-led pastoral ministry, begun in 2016, that expresses St. Luke's care and concern to EVERY member of our church family. For our Spring calling campaign, we are looking for people who are willing to make phone calls to simply "check in" with members of our congregation and to ask if they have any prayer concerns. Calls can be made from the comfort of your own home! During our Fall calling campaign, we heard responses like, "I've been a member of this church for 20 years, and this is the first time anyone from the church has called me. Thank you so much." "Really, you're not calling to ask for money? Wow, we need to do more of this." There will be a brief training session for our volunteers. If you would like to help us please contact Jeanne Miller or any member of the Pastoral Care Team.

Lay Eucharistic Visitors
Our team is in need of several more Lay Eucharistic Visitors who will take communion to those members of our church family who are homebound. What an amazing experience to share the news of the community, prayers and communion with people who may be feeling alone and lonely. Please contact Deacon Chris Christy or any member of the Pastoral Care Team if you feel called to this ministry.
