Hiking, Biking Day for Yavapai-Apache Kids
On Saturday, August 31, a group from St. Luke's hosted the Yavapai-Apache Nation Mountain Biking Club for a trail ride in Prescott's Immanuel Pines area.  Thirty kids hiked or biked through that beautiful forest.  A few had bikes that developed mechanical difficulties that couldn't be repaired on the trail. BUT, everyone had a
truly wonderful experience, and no one complained that the temperature was 95 degrees that day.  After the trail experience, we all walked over to Deacon Kimball's beautiful place in the pines for lunch on her shaded patio. Too soon, it was all over. The kids headed for the vans and back to the reservation. The next day this note was sent: "Thank you for the pictures, the kids thought your group was awesome and they were pretty impressed with your riding skills!!!! They are looking forward to doing it again. But thank you so much for all that you do." St. Luke's participants: Monte and Pat Anderson, Deacon Kimball, Dwight Willman, George Chesney, Larry Neece, Lynne Wells and Neil Patton. St. Luke's Native American Ministry mission statement is, "We build bridges of understanding through learning, caring, respecting and interacting with our Native American brothers and sisters." This little event pretty much covered all four of our goals. All were enriched. Thanks be to God.  The next ride will be in the Fall. We can always use more helpers. You'll love it!
We are pleased to announce that St. Luke's will be represented at Hope Fest, Saturday September 28, at the Courthouse Plaza. Time: 10 am to 4 pm. The activities go on with Christian entertainment until 8 pm. We hope that we will be able to have representatives from our various organizations and commissions present to talk to people as they come by our booth.  There is a signup sheet in the gathering hall. It would be wonderful to have several people take a turn for two hours from a variety of our outreach programs. We will need several people to help set up the booth and take it down. This will not be too intensive as we are being provided tables and chairs by the Hope Fest Committee. We need people to help hang banners and get things set up.  We are excited about our participation and hope you are as well. We plan to gather materials about our various outreach programs in the Conference Room no later than Thursday morning September 26

Hurricane Dorian has left a path of destruction in the Bahamas.  We need your help to provide relief and support to communities impacted by this devastating storm.  We are working through the Anglican Alliance to support the Anglican Diocese of the Bahamas & the Turks and Caicos as they begin assessing the damage and providing aid to those impacted.  In addition, our church partners on the U. S. Southeast coast need your help as they too respond to the needs of their communities. Click here to make a donation to the Hurricane Reflief Fund of ERD

Attending to our spiritual well-being is a bit like attending to our physical health. Regular spiritual practices such as daily prayer and scripture study are like physical exercise.  The more we do them, the easier they get and the healthier we become.  Forward Movement has launched RenewalWorks for Me.  This new resources-free of charge-begins with a brief self-assessment of where you are in your spiritual growth.  Based on the results of that quiz, you can sign up for an eight week series of emails to offer you specific encouragement on a path that will foster spiritual growth.

Notes from St. Luke's Deacon in Formation
Although deacon formation classes were not held in June, July, or August, the Class of 2020-Amy Bryan (St. Augustine's,Tempe), Susan Erickson (St. Philip's In The Hills, Tucson), and I-were not sitting idle!  We had lots of reading to do, papers to write, events and activities to attend, and succession plans to develop for the ministries in our home parishes that we will be leaving behind when our internships begin on September 1st.  But before talking about our internships, I'll recap our summer.

Contemplative Outreach of Phoenix
