A sign up sheet for those who would like to provide food or volunteer to help set up and clean up for the reception is posted on the bulletin board in the parish hall. Recipes for Scottish treats can be found at the Coleman Street Entrance.

I’ve been reflecting on this sentence the last few weeks - “Every brave person is afraid.” We tend to think that bravery is the absence of fear, but when I reflect on times when I’ve been brave, it was when I was full of fear. Yet somehow, I tamped down that fear, and that’s really what bravery is. Bravery is not letting fear get the upper hand. The Scriptures tell us over and over again “Do not fear,” and yet fear drives so many of our decisions. Perhaps acknowledging our fear is the first brave step, and the next is learning how not to let it control us. What do you fear? Maybe we can’t really be brave without fear, but for today, may we all be one shade braver in the face of whatever life has for us.

(If you would like to receive a weekly text like this from me, text me at 706-761-0115 with your name and "add me.”)
Dear Parish Family,

As promised, I have been working diligently with Marcy Brewer and Father Jeff to ensure that during my maternity leave (roughly from December 1 through the end of February), Outreach runs as smoothly as possible.  We’ve done a lot of work and I am confident that with Marcy’s leadership in my absence, Outreach is in great hands.

I am reaching out to each of you with some things we need some help with.

Project Noel:

*Stocking stuffers.  We have newborn to age 17 and a total of 31 kids that we are providing Christmas for with the help of Oak Mountain Academy.  Each year we allow the parents to stuff their own children’s stocking.  We would be so grateful to you for providing the stuffers this year.  Some ideas are candy, small toys, mittens, socks, bubbles, small games, cards, bouncy balls, small stuffed animals.

*Volunteers.  We need a few volunteers to assist on December 12 th  when gifts are picked up from Oak Mountain and on December 19 th  when the parents come pick up the gifts.

*Wrappers.  Most gifts will be wrapped by Oak Mountain but there are inevitably always a few that need to be wrapped.  This will probably need to take place sometime between
Dec 12 th  and 19 th .

Food Pantry:

*We need one volunteer to head up the food pantry.  This will entail assessing the food pantry right before the second Sunday of every month and then typing up the list and distributing them at the church services the second Sunday of each month.  It would be great to have this person commit to continuing this task even after I return.

*Volunteers to come in every couple of weeks and go ahead and pack up food boxes so that when people stop in as they do occasionally, Jeff and Julie can have boxes ready to give.
It would be great to have this continue even after I return too!

Loads of Love:

*One or two Volunteers to shop a few days before each loads of love for lunches, dryer sheets (as needed) and waters and bring to church to refrigerator.  Of course you will be reimbursed!

*Volunteers to come to Loads of Love (dates in my absence are December 1 st ,
December 15 th , January 5 th , January 19 th , February 2 nd  and February 16 th ).

Please prayerfully consider all of these opportunities and let Marcy ( ) know if you are interested in any of these.  We would love to hear from you soon so that we can put things in place and get you up to speed on details.

Thanks again for your kindness and excitement as we look forward to Charlie joining our family very soon!

In Thanksgiving,
For those who are discerning a call to serve on St. Margaret's Vestry, Fr. Jeff and the Vestry will hold an Orientation meeting on  Thursday, December 5 at 6:00pm  to discuss what being a Vestry member means, what the expectations are, and what upcoming things are ahead of the Vestry in 2020 and beyond. We will also answer any questions potential nominees might have. For further information, please contact Fr. Jeff.
The Vestry is accepting names of parishioners who would like to be candidates for one of the three open positions on the vestry.  If you, or someone you know, would like to be of service to St. Margaret’s in this capacity, please complete the vestry nomination form and give it to one of the nominating committee members or drop it off at the church office.  The nominations will close at the end of business on Thursday, January 9; no nominations will be accepted after this date.  The election will be at the Parish Annual Meeting on January 12.  If you are nominating someone, the nominee must give permission to have her/his name submitted as a candidate.
The Vestry is responsible for the business of running the church.  A candidate must be willing to serve a three-year term on the Vestry; attend monthly meetings (on the second Tuesday evening of each month); and attend the annual Vestry Retreat at Camp Mikell (January 24 – 26, 2020).
Criteria to hold the office of Vestry Member are as follows:
1.       Confirmed (or received) as an Episcopalian.
2.       Not less than eighteen years of age.
3.       A regular attendant in church services in the year preceding election.
4.       Known by the Treasurer to have made and maintained a stated financial commitment for church support in the year preceding election.
5.       Cannot be related to a current member of the vestry
Please give this matter prayerful thought and consideration. The future of St. Margaret’s depends on it!

____________    Please enter my name for consideration for the Vestry.
____________   Please enter the name below for consideration.
____________   I have personally secured this person’s permission to place his/her name in nomination for the Vestry.
DEADLINE:  Please submit this  application and a short biography of the nominee  by Thursday, January 9, 2020. Return the application and biography to:
St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Vestry Nominating Committee, 606 Newnan Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117.

November 18 th , 1 p.m., Little Hawaiian

In this season of Thanksgiving, we at SWELL are especially thankful for Dock Anderson and his musical ministry at St. Margarets.

Martin Luther once said,

“Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.”

Dock amazes us each week with his organ mastery and musical creativity.  Under his leadership, the choir blossoms every week and delivers an impressive, reverent and inspirational performance.  His talent, originality and range of programs always touches the hearts of the congregation and transports us into the spirit of the  worship service.  From euphonious and lilting melodies in hymns to Psalms sung in Classical Latin to  the rhythmic and happy cadence of the Torah song, the music prepares our hearts to hear God’s word and receive his message in Father Jeff’s sermons.

We thank you Dock for your devotion and service!  We especially look forward to the upcoming  Christmas music.  We look forward to enjoying your rich and inspiring musical ministry in the years ahead.

We will see you soon at the luncheon.  We’ll  enjoy delicious food, laughter —- and maybe even a little roasting to keep you humble!  😊😊

Peace, Joy and Blessings,

St. Margaret's is once again letting herself be known in the community theater. Several of us are starting in this one, including Erin Poulson, Terry Shadrix, and Joshua Waits. Mary Chitwood Shadrix is also doing props for us. So please get your tickets and let do another round of Episcopal theater and Episcopal evangelism.

The Worship Committee and and Father Jeff decided it might be helpful to do a series of short videos that teach us about the various aspects of our worship. This is intended to be helpful for new folks or children or even folks who might have forgotten why we do what we do. I hope it's helpful.

ReviveATL: Love in Action
an Episcopal Church Revival
January 22, 2020 from 6–8 p.m.
Atlanta University Center

Please join  Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry , Bishop Robert Wright, and the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Atlanta for ReviveATL: Love in Action, an Episcopal Church Revival, on January 22, 2020 from 6–8 p.m. at  Atlanta University Center .

This past year, Presiding Bishop Curry has urged people of faith to follow The Way of Love, fostering a community of people who follow Jesus by forming loving, liberating and life-giving relationships with God, their neighbors, and the environment.

This Way of Love is reflected by the Diocese of Atlanta’s purpose statement:
"We challenge ourselves and the world to love like Jesus as we worship joyfully, serve compassionately, and grow spiritually."

What does Love in Action look like in a world that is hurting? ReviveATL invites us to live out our call to serve Jesus and love as he loves the unwelcome, the disenfranchised, the lost, and the found.

All are welcome. Come experience Love in Action.

Details: Prior to the Revival, food trucks will be available from 4:30–6 p.m. to allow for early arrivals. A more detailed program will be released this fall. Early bird registration before Nov. 1 includes guaranteed seating. Registration will be opening soon!
