St. Margaret's Notebook
October 24, 2019
Minds to think. Hearts to love. Hands to serve.
On Sunday, Julia Gable, our guest speaker reminded us that if we are made in the image of God, then we are encouraged to grow in that likeness. If God is all-loving, then we are to be too. If God is generous, then we should be too. To that end, over 60 families pledged generously to the mission and ministry of St. Margaret’s, 36 of whom increased their pledge, and 17 of whom were new pledgers! Because of that, our budget number increased by 11%! That is amazing. The people of St. Margaret’s are always so generous, and I cannot thank you enough. If you feel called to pledge and have not yet, please do so by  November 3 , All Saints Sunday. Cards are being mailed to previous givers who weren’t here Sunday and they are also available in the church office. Again, thank you for being the image of our generous God!

Dear Parish Family-

Thank you so much for the awesome “Countdown to Charlie” cake and dinner last night.  We are so grateful to each of you and cannot wait to introduce you all to him this holiday season.

I also wanted to let you all know that I will be on maternity leave (assuming Charlie follows rules stays put until his due date) from roughly around December 1 st  through February 28 th .  Father Jeff, Marcy Brewer (Vestry Outreach Liaison), and I will be working diligently together over the next few weeks to finalize the plans for while I am out on maternity leave.  We will post those plans in the newsletter when complete.

Thank you again for celebrating with us and for the gift of maternity leave-

Are you interested in learning more about what it means to be a member of the Episcopal Church? You may be someone who’s been here a long time or someone who is brand new, either way, this class is for you! All questions are welcome as we learn who we are and how we express our faith. If you are interested in joining the class, please contact

Also, if you have decided to be baptized (adults or parents of a child desiring to be baptized), confirmed (making a mature public statement of faith for the first time), received (becoming an Episcopalian from another denomination), or reaffirmed (renewing your own Episcopal identity), you will want to be a part of this class. The next opportunity to be confirmed, received, or reaffirmed by the Bishop is on St. Margaret’s Day, November 17 at either 9:00am or 11:00am.

ALL SAINTS SUNDAY, November 3, 2019

On All Saints we will remember those who have died. If you have someone you would like to be remembered please call Julie in the church office at 770-832-3931 or email at
The tune  Foundation,  to which we sing the hymn “How firm a foundation ye saints of the Lord”, first appeared in print in 1832. The composer is unknown but the popularity of the tune makes it one of the most well-known tunes in churches today. It is included in over 200 hymnals and numerous arrangements exist for choir, organ, piano, and soloists.

The tune has been a personal favorite of mine and my family for many years—indeed, it’s one of the first hymn tunes I remember having an emotional impact on me. When I was young, my sister was the organist at our family’s church, and I remember her playing it and being enthralled with the melody. I remember the thrill at hearing the melody soar to the high note with the text “That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.”

This Sunday includes the premier performance of my own new arrangement of the hymn tune as the closing Voluntary. The arrangement is dedicated to my sister, Lalla McGee, the first organist I ever heard.

October Calendar

The Worship Committee and and Father Jeff decided it might be helpful to do a series of short videos that teach us about the various aspects of our worship. This is intended to be helpful for new folks or children or even folks who might have forgotten why we do what we do. I hope it's helpful.

Adult Class: Our class will meet  this Sunday October 27th  in the Vestry room at 10:10 am. We will continue our discussion of the readings for the day. Here is a link to those readings.

Here is a link to a lesson plan based on the appointed gospel, Luke 18:9-14.

ReviveATL: Love in Action
an Episcopal Church Revival
January 22, 2020 from 6–8 p.m.
Atlanta University Center

Please join  Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry , Bishop Robert Wright, and the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Atlanta for ReviveATL: Love in Action, an Episcopal Church Revival, on January 22, 2020 from 6–8 p.m. at  Atlanta University Center .

This past year, Presiding Bishop Curry has urged people of faith to follow The Way of Love, fostering a community of people who follow Jesus by forming loving, liberating and life-giving relationships with God, their neighbors, and the environment.

This Way of Love is reflected by the Diocese of Atlanta’s purpose statement:
"We challenge ourselves and the world to love like Jesus as we worship joyfully, serve compassionately, and grow spiritually."

What does Love in Action look like in a world that is hurting? ReviveATL invites us to live out our call to serve Jesus and love as he loves the unwelcome, the disenfranchised, the lost, and the found.

All are welcome. Come experience Love in Action.

Details: Prior to the Revival, food trucks will be available from 4:30–6 p.m. to allow for early arrivals. A more detailed program will be released this fall. Early bird registration before Nov. 1 includes guaranteed seating. Registration will be opening soon!
