Dear St. Mark Families,
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Luke 16:19-31 Jesus tells the parable of the reversal of fortunes between the rich man and the poor man, Lazarus.
A major theme in the Gospel of Luke is the importance of the care of the poor in the life of discipleship. In the parable found in today's Gospel, Jesus contrasts the life of a rich man and the poor man, Lazarus, who lives in the shadow of the rich man and his wealth. Both die. Lazarus finds himself in heaven; the rich man in the netherworld. The rich man asks for assistance from Lazarus in his torment. But Abraham reminds the rich man of the good things he had in his life and describes the current situation as a reversal of fortunes.
The story of the rich man and Lazarus demonstrates the importance of the care of the poor and is a reminder to those who would follow Jesus of the unimportance of wealth in the eyes of God. © Loyola Press Sunday Connection
In the coming weeks and months, our students, faculty, and families will have the opportunity to demonstrate the importance of the care of the poor through numerous service opportunities. Thereby fulfilling our school mission, that is built on the foundation of discipleship, by teaching Gospel values with the shared goal of guiding your children on the path to heaven.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of former Middle School Science Teacher Lorie Boveroux. Mrs. Boveroux was at St. Mark School for a short time, however she has left a lasting impression on all that were blessed to know her. Please keep the Boveroux family in your prayers.
I wish you all continued good health and God's blessings.
Yours in Christ,
Mrs. Warner

Dismissal
I have received some concerns from our faculty, parishioners and parents regarding parents/visitors leaning against cars in the parking lot during dismissal. Please make an effort to not lean against vehicles in the parking lot that do not belong to you.
Allowing children to run down the parking lot to their adult waiting between cars poses a significant safety risk to all. Therefore, teachers will not dismiss a student until they feel it is safe to do so.
Parents of students in Grades K-4 are asked to not take your child out of the class dismissal line until he or she is released by the teacher. It is imperative that the teacher see you and you make eye contact with the teacher and wave before your child is dismissed. We appreciate your patience as each child is safely released individually by the teacher to his or her parent or grandparent.
Please keep in mind, the area is an active parking lot, with cars arriving and leaving. Adults are asked to keep your children close to you, especially our youngest students, and not allow them to run through the parking lot.
To ensure the safety of our students and staff, pets and non-service trained domestic animals are not permitted on school grounds during school hours and/or during school events, except when in a vehicle. They are not permitted to leave a vehicle without prior permission of school administration or parish officials.

In Our Classrooms
In Innovation class this week, students in Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade read the story, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? By Carol McCloud.
Students discussed how being a "bucket filler" is someone who is kind to others. Then, students were each given a piece of paper, a strip of paper, a pipe cleaner, tape and scissors to create and build their own buckets. They tested the strength of their buckets by adding marbles to them.
Kindergarten had a bucket hold 120 marbles. Second Grade had a bucket hold 133 marbles, and First Grade had a bucket hold a record breaking 163 marbles!

Around Our School
The hallways, classrooms, cafeteria, bathrooms, and gym of St. Mark School are covered with Lions Pride signage designed to promote a positive school climate and moral character education. The signs outline the core values, virtues, and moral qualities demonstrated by an exemplary St. Mark Student.
Each classroom has their own specifically designed poster in age-appropriate
language. Because concepts like respect and integrity are not “picture words'', they are harder to teach. Pictures of Lucky the Lion, our St. Mark School mascot, visually demonstrating what these behaviors look like in different parts of the school are critical in supporting our school mission of educating the whole child, made in the image and likeness of God. St. Mark School Lions Pride signage makes morals, virtues, and character easy to understand, even for our littlest lions.
